How We Save Money

We are at a stage of life where we want to save money for certain things we have coming up. For instance we have a very pricey honeymoon in October, we want to buy a house next year and then of course start having little ones sometime in the not so distant future. So saving money is something very important to us as a couple.

We are both at a stage of complete financial independence. Thankfully we do not need to rely on parents, or really even each other for money. Sure our accounts are merged but we completely share in all expenses. So we plan and make all decisions together as well.

I wanted to share with you a few ways in which we plan and save:

1. Seeing movies for free: We use Gofobo.com and get alerts of movie screenings almost daily! Basically nearly every movie that comes out there will be local screenings for at least in our area. I knew I really wanted to see The Fault in our Stars so when given the opportunity to see it early and for free I jumped at the chance! Not only did I save money but I got to see it 3 weeks before everyone else!

2. Meal Planning: Every Saturday before we go grocery shopping we meal plan for the entire next week. We know what we are doing for breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day. This has saved us both time in the grocery store and money. That’s not to save we don’t mix up the nights for some of those meals every now and then but we stick to the food. This has also saved on food we waste and throw out. Before we started meal planning we would wander around the grocery store knowing maybe a few things we needed but we still spent way more time. We also threw so much expired food out that we would buy just to buy.

3. Inexpensive Dates:  We love to have date nights but going out and spending $100 on dinner or at iPic(fantastic movie theater) all the time. Sometimes our dates include rides on the Trolley that go right by our townhouse(it’s free!) We also love walking to the yogurt place around the corner and grabbing a cup of yogurt or if you are me a cup of toppings(sorrynotsorry). Other inexpensive date nights include cooking together and watching a movie, going to Klyde Warren Park, or the Nasher Sculpture Center for their free once a month movies outside. All of these things are fun and remind us we don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy our time together.

These are awesome save money tips! We have a set amount that we save each week/month and literally set it to one side. That way it’s almost not even real money to us… then we can spend the money that’s on the “other side”.

I find I spend less if I don’t bring anything other than cash to the store. Having a set amount of visible dollars to spend really helps cut down on unnecessary spending!

GoFobo is a blessing sent down from God! Lol! I love GoFobo! My husband and I use Groupons for restaurants and trips. Our week long honeymoon in Las Vegas was only $200 through Groupon. We also use points he earns at work to get free movie tickets. I also coupon a lot.
