2016 Goals

Can you believe next Friday starts the new year? 2015 was a crazy year. There was a lot of good, a little not so good, but mostly it was great! So much happened this year. I continued blogging full time, we bought our first house, and recently I bought a new car! I am sharing my 2016 goals today because I find when I share my goals on the blog I am more likely to work towards them. I guess them being public makes me more accountable!

2016-Goals

One of my goals in 2015 was to read 52 books. Well I read 65, and this year my goal is to read 75! I love to read so this shouldn’t be an issue. Please leave any book recs below in the comments.

Stop focusing on the number on the scale. This was a goal last year too! I know that I am well in my right weight range for my height and that I am pretty toned. I work out six days a week, and I eat really healthy 90% of the time. Usually unless we are on a vacation somewhere. So I really need to give myself more of a break.

More date nights with Andrew. Because of buying our house and working on projects around the house, our date nights were not as frequent this year. I would love to get back in a habit of going on one date a week. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive.

Write about things that scare me. Not like spiders or birds (yes, birds scare me) more like writing about topics that scare me. More personal topics coming in 2016!

Continue to blog full time. I have loved blogging full time the past two years, and I hope I can continue that this next year. I feel very blessed and fortunate that this is my job.

Branch out. I would love to make new friends, join some new groups, and volunteer more this year. So I am hoping to branch out more and get out of my comfort zone. I am not great at stepping out of my comfort zone, so I hope I can do that!

Travel. We have several trips planned in 2016. Mexico for a wedding, Baltimore for a wedding, DC, Park City, and Fredericksburg to name some, but I hope we can plan one or two more trips in there. I would love to go to Seaside Florida, and we are looking for somewhere to go over our birthdays. I really want travel to be more of a part of my life.

Join our home offices. So when we moved into our house we used two different rooms and had two separate offices. However, we have two large rooms that aren’t being used to their full potential, so I would like to combine our offices into one of these rooms. I work from our couch and the kitchen island a lot, and Andrew works from the couch when he is home too, so we don’t need two separate offices.

Cook more. I was never huge into cooking, but this year I have taken over about half of our cooking. I honestly enjoy it a lot. I have made a ton of new meals and gotten VERY friendly with our slow cooker. Meal planning really helps with this too.

More time with friends. I have learned more and more that having a few really great close friends is better than tons of so so friends. This year I ended a friendship and made new friends. In 2016 I want to take time for my friends and really nurture my good friendships.

I’m sure I will add to this list as the year goes on. I would love to hear what some of your 2016 goals are!

Great goals! Stopping focusing on the scale has been a big one for me, and I’m still working on it. Congrats on reading so many books! I also set a goal of 52 books, but I’m afraid I’m probably going to fall short or just scrape by.

Sounds like 2016 will be an exciting year for you! I have some of the same goals…like more reading, traveling and pushing myself to touch on topics I’ve been afraid to write about.

I would so love to have more date nights with my husband, or ANY for that matter. But alas, kids rule everything around us 🙂

I’ve been working on my goals. I love that so many of us are setting goals instead of making resolutions. I’m always for approaching things from the positive not the negative. Thanks for your inspiration!

  7. You had me at “It Starts With Coffee!” What a great blog. You’re an aggressive reader, too! I will have to make my own 2016 goals for book reading, as I have this lovely little habit of collecting them and then abandoning them. Is there such a thing as trophy books? Ha ha. My literature needs some love!

Love this list. I love that one of your goals is to begin writing more outside of your comfort zone. I think as bloggers we are sometimes afraid to post certain topics but sometimes the brutal, open, honest posts out there are the ones that end up helping others the most. Here’s to a great 2016!

Great goals… all attainable! Hate making wild goals that are so lofty that its crazy challenging to reach them. Not sure my goal yet… I think keeping healthy is the main one!

This is a great list. If I made one it would be very similar. I can’t really travel to much but I would love to get out of town at least a few times next year. My goal was 100 books this year. I’m 10 short as of today, if I don’t include the books I read to the boys. I spend a lot of time sick in bed so all I do is read lol.

  26. I love that date night is on here! When we got married we scheduled Thursday as date night and no matter WHAT comes up, family party, church responsibility, work meeting, we just say, “I’m sorry, that won’t work for me, I have a prior committment.” or “Sorry! That is date night and we can’t change that.” it has been such a blessing to our marriage!

Also, my goal this past year was to read 6 books (I didn’t…how sad is that? Though there were several understandable reasons, in my opinion) but this next year I hope for 12 books. One a month, sounds reasonable, yes? haha
