I feel like from time to time I get on a big documentary kick. I wanted to share 5 documentaries to watch right now that I recently watched and really enjoyed. They all range in topics and there are some light hearted and some very serious.
5 Documentaries To Watch Right Now
Shiny Happy People: I have watched The Duggars for years and years. Mostly out of fascination. This documentary was honestly terrifying. I didn’t know a ton about the IBLP other than the big stuff but they really do a deep dive into how terrible and abusive it is. 4 episodes currently on Amazon Prime.
Pamela: A Love Story I really loved this one. Pamela Anderson is such a treasure and I truly feel bad for what she went through. This is much better than the Pam and Tommy show which I actually really liked. Netflix.
White Hot: Any millennial will appreciate this look at the rise and fall of Abercrombie! If you shopped there in the 90s and early 2000s it’s a MUST WATCH! Netflix.
Murdaugh Murders: Any true crime fan has probably already seen this documentary or any of the other Murdaugh docs out there. But man this family and this man. What a wild ride. I feel absolutely awful for the girl that his son killed and then his family. Netflix.
Harry and Meghan: I didn’t really want to watch this and I won’t say it was great but it did give a TON of insight. I do feel bad for Harry and Meghan and I can tell he just doesn’t want history to repeat itself. I hope they have a wonderful private life away from the Royal Family. Netflix.
Have you seen any of these documentaries?
I loved watching the Duggars and although I thought they were crazy, I didn’t realise quite how mental it all was. I genuinely was not aware they were members of IBLP, just thought they were Baptist who took it to the extreme. I am not comparing my life to them but having been brought up in a very strict religion before my Mum got brave and left, I can see comparisons and how life could have been if we had stayed. There were things they did, that I thought were ok (the buddy system, cooking for the family, learning building skills etc) but reviewing it with the knowledge that the IBLP beliefs were behind it is horrifying!! I binge watched and now am rewatching it. Fascinating and Horrific!!
I’m always up for a good documentary. Thanks for the suggestions, I’m going to check out the Pam Anderson one first.
I watched the Murdaugh Murders and it was an incredible and unbelievable documentary! Super fascinating true crime case.
I have watched all but White Hot. I had the same feelings about Shiny Happy People- so scary! And the Murdagh Murders was like a Criminal Minds episode inspiration piece- just wow.
Harry and Meghan is controversial but I want to give it a try.
Documentaries are fascinating. I would like to add animal documentaries. They’re great and relaxing to watch. Nature is fascinating!
Great list. I have been wanting to watch Harry and Meagan.
Hhhhmmm….I haven’t watched any of these documentaries. I do want to start with Harry and Megan! I feel it will be epic and will speak to me directly.
I watched the Murdaugh ones – that was a wild show! Will have to check out the others!
Other than Shiny, happy people, I’ve watched the rest of them docus. Where do I watch Shiny, Happy People? Is it on Netflix or HBO?
