9 Things I Do At The Start Of Each Year

I think some people dread the post holiday time. Not me. Never me. I have always loved January. I wanted to share some of the things I do at the start of each year or the very end of the previous year that make me feel like I am starting a new year off strong.

9 Things I Do At The Start Of Each Year

Make goals: I do a set of yearly goals and then monthly goals but I love to make goals vs resolutions. Resolutions can seem like they are trapping you but goals give you something to strive towards.

Purge: I started this a little before Christmas and really go into it after Christmas and at this point everything in this house other than Andrews office and closet have been purged. I LOVE to start the new year off with an organized purged house.

Clean out: To go along with that I have cleaned out so much stuff. Clothes, shoes, kids books and toys etc.

Take Inventory: What do we not need anymore of? What are we missing? Do the kids have enough pants that fit? What items are we running low on? It’s a great time to do that.

Give myself a break: I usually take a break from about a week before Christmas to the Monday after New Years from working. I do a few things work related but try to take that time and focus on my family, home, and myself to get ready for the new year.

Start the year with a clear head: For me this means spending New Years Day taking are of my body and mind. Going for a long walk, doing a workout, spending quality time with my husband and kids.

Reflect: Reflecting on the past year and what I have accomplished or did not accomplish. What do I want to do differently? How do I want to grow this year? What do we want for our family this year?

Make a gratitude list: What am I grateful for? This is always a great thing to do and we talked as a family about each day before bed saying a few things we are grateful for that day. I think this is a great habit and a happy way to end each day.

Start ahead: I love being ahead on life at the start of a new year. Having some newsletters, blog posts, podcast episodes recorded. A few Instagram reels done and ready. Starting the year off with low stress is the best.
