How To Stay Committed To New Years Goals

I do not make resolutions. I just don’t. I used to but let’s be real, sometimes resolutions can be ridiculously unachievable and then we feel let down. Instead I make goals. Goals seem more attainable because they are things you are working towards, not changes you make all at once. I then make monthly goals on top of that. I have had a lot of people ask me how I stay committed to new years goals. Today I am sharing my tips!

How TO Stay Committed To New Years Goals

How To Stay Committed To New Years Goals

Make them reasonable: I think the problem with resolutions is that you might say “I want to lose 50 lbs” and that’s just a lofty goal for ANYONE. But if you say “my goal is to live a healthier life” and then maybe each month have a goal to lose 5 lbs which is totally doable. You see a more reasonable goal with a more attainable outcome.

Have your supplies handy: If you have a goal, let’s say to keep organized, make sure you buy a great planner. If you have a goal to have more amazing dental health then stock up on the products ahead of time. For instance if that is one of your goals which let’s face it, it should be one of all of our goals, then get the right stuff. I highly recommend LISTERINE® TOTAL CARE FRESH MINT Anti-cavity Mouthwash. We love LISTERINE products as I have mentioned tons of times. This one is great because of all of the benefits like:

  • Helps prevent cavities
  • Restores minerals to enamel
  • Kills bad breath germs
  • Cleans the whole mouth
  • Freshens breath

What more could you want?

This past year one of my main goals was a better skin care routine. I kept it up the entire year and on New Years Eve last year I went to the mall to buy everything I wanted to use. If you have your supplies you are golden!

Break them down: If you have a really big goal for the year break it down into pieces you can do month by month or even week by week. I had a really big goal of 75 books to read this past year. While I did not meet the goal, I did get close. I think it’s because I broke it down by month based on how busy I would be that month.

Reward Yourself: No matter how many you achieve or do not achieve giving yourself little rewards here and there is helpful and motivating. I know for me when I accomplish something like 5 workouts in a week I reward myself with maybe a treat on Friday like picking up lunch at Whole Foods. If you have a goal of saving $500 a month maybe at the end of the year if you’ve gone above that treat yourself to a small gift. But maybe weekly you could treat yourself to one trip to Starbucks a week instead of daily.

Cut yourself slack: Don’t set yourself up to fail but if you do get to a month where you don’t accomplish everything just cut yourself some slack. You’re human.

These are my tips on how to stay committed to New Years goals. If you have any tips please let me know!

What are some of your New Years goals?

  1. I like the idea of new years goals! They’re somewhat like “resolutions”, worded differently for us word nerds it makes a world of difference. Thanks for the advice.

  3. Last year was the first year I really made New Year’s goals. I can’t stand the idea of resolutions. Goals actually happen if you are consistent and break them down into realistic chunks.

I like the idea of goals rather than resolutions. I believe that a goal is measurable and is easier to focus on because it is long term.

I do not make resolutions but I do set some small goals I’m trying to work on. This year I wanted to read 150 books and I’m over my goal already. Reading my 159th book at the moment! I’m really happy that I have taken time this past year to read a lot.

I like the idea of calling them goals instead of resolutions. I have lots of goals for the new years, but my main ones are:
    1) Start making a full-time income from my blog
    2) Lose 60 lbs
    3) Move out of the crappy apartment I’m living in, and either rent or buy a home.
    Happy Holidays!

  19. When it comes to setting goals or resolutions or intentions, or whatever anyone wants to call it…I think the key is making really attainable but also specific. If you’re not sure how to measure success, then how do you know if you met your goal?

I loved the way you discuss the topic of how to stay committed to your new year resolutions. I personally do not commit any resolutions for new year. I feel each and every moment i try to do my level best and do not expect for result that makes me happy. I just love my work in every moment. I personally feel short term goals are better compare to long term goals. Setting short term goals and try to achieve is good idea.
