I have tried to maintain a healthy lifestyle since I was about 25. Honestly before that I really did not pay too much attention to it. I was always active growing up and didn’t really think much about what I ate, or how I worked out. Obviously as I have gotten older, and learned more about health and wellness my focus has changed. I have also tried a lot of different things. My current wellness journey and routine is honestly a lot of back to the basics for me.
Current Wellness Journey and Routine
Food: Healing my relationship with food is something I am really focused on. The mental gymnastics I would spend qualifying every piece of food I ate for years was exhausting. Switching my mentality and focusing on the quality of the food, making sure I get enough protein, enough good fats, enough fruits and vegetables, and enough fiber are my focuses. Not the calories I do not track food. For me that is a very damaging thing and something I start to fixate on. It work if you are trying to lose weight but is NOT a good idea if you are trying to keep good mental health about it.
Fitness: Over the years I have done A LOT of different workouts. Ever since taking my first barre class in 2010 I have always come back to it. About 15 months ago I started going back to Pure Barre and have rarely missed a day since. It’s my favorite strength workout and I love the vibe of a group fitness class. I also love going on walks and try to walk every day. For me this is the best combo for my body. I will work in a Peloton ride every now and then if I don’t go to barre but pretty much stick to these.
Everything else: I do not use a scale. About a year ago I stopped stepping on a scale and even at doctors appointments I don’t let them tell me. I have had a lifelong struggle with body image and the scale for me is a slippery slope. I have also focused a lot the past few months on gut health. I take Seed probiotics. I also do a spoonful of coconut cult yogurt and sea moss gel every morning. I try to drink lemon water all day and drink peppermint tea at night. This combo is doing something good for my body!
What is your current wellness routine?
I took a fitness program a few years ago. She liked counting macros in terms of her stuff and I did not. However, I learned how my body reacted when I didn’t eat enough protein or certain things. I learned a lot. I like going to the gym. In this current moment I am just trying to take care of my brain and remember and make time to eat moving it stressful. I’m glad you like barre always wanted to take a class.
