Clean Beauty Swaps To Try

When I set out on my clean beauty journey I started just with one product, deodorant. It seemed like the easiest to switch and try out. After that, I just went one by one and found clean beauty swaps to try out in several categories. It can be overwhelming to try to switch everything at once and you also want to make sure the items work for you. I am going to share my favorites in several categories so if you are looking for clean beauty swaps this is a great resource to start with.

Clean Beauty Swaps To Try

Clean Beauty Skincare Swaps:

I personally think skincare is one of the most important swaps to make. This is the stuff on your face all day, all night. So it was REALLY important to me to make this specific switch. I actually went to the Follain store in Dallas and Tara Foley the founder helped me set up a completely new skincare routine.

Serum: I use a serum in the morning and a serum at night. Technically two at night although I consider one more of an oil. In the morning I use Ursa Major vitamin C serum. At night I use Naturopathica Vitamin C15 serum.

Moisturizer: I have used a lot of clean moisturizers but I have been pretty loyal to a few for the last couple of years. In the morning I either use the Josh Rosenbrook SPF moisturizer or the Supergoop moisturizer. In the evenings I always use the Ursa Major Golden Hour moisturizer.

Sunscreen: I am a Supergoop sunscreen girl. I have been using it for a few years. It’s such a great sunscreen. I use several of their products and find they protect the best, and don’t make my skin or body feel gross.

Face Wash: I ONLY use the Naturopathica face wash. I am sure there are so many great clean beauty swaps for a face wash but I have been using it for 2 years and I love it. I did a full Naturopathica review here.

Clean Beauty Makeup Swaps:

There are tons of great clean beauty swaps for makeup but I really wanted to focus on the ones I use most and swapped first.

Mascara: I have two that I really love. The Kosas mascara and the ILIA mascara. They are both great. Kosas is more of a night time/dress up mascara and the ILIA is great for every day.

Blush: For blush, I really do love the beautycounter blush. This one is a great dupe for NARS Orgasm. I also really like the ILIA cream blush.

Concealer: Again Kosas and ILIA for the win. They are my two favorites and I have tried A LOT.

Lip Balm: I wrote an entire blog post on my favorites but right now my number one favorite is the Bite Agave lip balm. I keep them everywhere: purse, bedside, bathroom, etc. It is insanely hydrating and smells so good!

Clean Beauty Body Swaps:

This is the thing I work on the most as I am still swapping a few things but these are the ones I feel like I have the best grasp on.

Deodorant: This was the very first clean beauty swap I did and I have tried dozens of clean deodorants. Right now I am using the Ursa Major Sublime Sage deodorant spray and also the Briogeo Be Well tea tree deodorant. I really love both. The Ursa Major is definitely better pre-workout!

Body Lotion:  I love a good clean body lotion. I don’t love the idea of spending a ton but I really love the Necessaire body lotion. Its the best one I’ve used and I get the one with no scent. But their Eucalyptus body wash is also really great. It’s a splurge but worth it.

Don’t let switching to clean beauty overwhelm you. There are SO MANY articles, and professionals, and even stores out there that specialize in clean beauty. My biggest advice is just to start researching it. Try things out. Make one clean beauty swap at a time. I personally have seen a HUGE change in my skin once I switched over. It also makes me way more aware in everyday life of what kind of products I am exposing myself to.

Have you made any clean beauty swaps yet?

  2. It is always interesting at the end of the use of some products to carefully evaluate and understand which one is better to reuse and buy and which not. Even for those who, like me, have to do it for the first time!

Thanks for this list! I try and buy only ‘clean’ and ‘vegan friendly’ makeup when possible. It’s hard because rules change for brands when they sell in China (legally they must pay to have testing done on animals with their products if they sell to that market). But it’s good to know there are so many safe options out there.

I was thrilled to hear a couple of years ago when Bite announced they were revamping their whole line. Love them! I don’t necessarily go out looking for clean skincare products but I do end up choosing them in the end!

Yes, it’s very important to keep clean our skin. I have already found my best way to clean it. It’s included several steps. but sometimes I try different serums and other things. to find the best one for my skin.
