Closing The Preschool Chapter

Next week is Charlotte’s last week of preschool. So for our family we are closing the preschool chapter after 7 years. 7 years spent at our sweet school where my children have grown, learned, made friends, and where I have made some of my best friends.

Closing The Preschool Chapter

When Liam finished preschool in 2022 I was sad but I knew that Charlotte had 3 more years so it didn’t phase me much. Right now I don’t so much feel sad about leaving the school. I feel sad that we won’t see so many of our friends every day. I feel sad about her getting bigger and being more independent. Mostly it all feels bittersweet.

She is beyond ready for this next step and I am ready to have my kids back at the same school. Plus not having to pay tuition is a huge bonus. But as we move into this next phase of having two elementary school aged children I know that everything matters more. Now it’s not just school for play and fun it’s really time to learn. She started reading this year and I am so excited to see her get to expand in that and math.

One big difference is because she has an older brother at the school she knows A LOT of kids her age also going into Kindergarten. Liam has a lot of friends with little brothers and sisters the same age. She’s been exposed to so much more at the school and people than he was before he started. I think that helps a lot with her adjustment. She is definitely a kid who takes a little longer to adjust to a new situation. Liam was not.

We’ve had all of our lasts at her school now. Last parties, last field days, last muffins with mom. So now it’s just time for her last day of school next week. Then it’s on to big kid things.

Can’t wait to see what she does.

  2. Such a beautiful post! Almost teary eyed as I read this because I remember my son going into elementary school and seeing him take off running. He wasn’t afraid. He was ready and I was so proud of how he adjusted so quickly! Thank you for sharing!

Don’t sweat their performance in school and best in mind that each child progresses at different rates. I bloomed in my later teens and then took off. Sounds like you’re doing everything right. 🙂

I remember this moment! My daughter was the last one out, and although we were all sad to leave such a friendly and familiar place, the next school was even better and she flourished! The struggle is real but when they see other kids they know, it’s less scary for everyone 🙂

  5. My son is 2.5 and just starting preschool and that was a huge adjustment not having him home with me all the time. Not ready for all the changes that will occur throughout his life time! They are bittersweet!

  7. Oh my goodness! I’ve never considered this. I have a four year old who still has one more year of preschool. It will be bittersweet because he is my last baby. Thanks for sharing your story and giving me some time to prep emotionally for this transition.
