Liam is going to start Mothers Day Out in August! We are so excited for him to learn lots of new things and make new friends! But there are SO MANY THINGS to do before he starts. I wanted to take you guys along on our journey getting ready for school.
Getting Ready For School
1. Get the right items: Liam needs all sorts of things for school from a nap mat, to a lunch box, to the right clothes and shoes. He is just starting to walk (mostly with help right now) but by the time he starts school in August he will be walking (and running) up a storm. I can fondly remember having Stride Rite shoes as a kid so I was pretty excited to discover Surprize by Stride Rite at Target! They have THE CUTEST selection of shoes for babies, early walkers, and older kids! You can get it online as well if you aren’t near a Target. A few of the reasons we really love the Surprize by Stride Rite shoes for Liam are the fit! Liam has pretty wide feet (cute little chubber) and we love that these shoes aren’t tight and form well to his feet. I feel that as a parent we always want what’s best for our little ones and shoes are no different. We don’t want to be uncomfortable with tight shoes, they don’t either! They are comfortable (memory foam footbed) and durable with anti-stink lining. Perfect for an active, mobile little boy! They close easy (velcro) for easy on and off which is good because we want him to be independent. They also have rounded toes and traction pods to reduce falling which is great when your little one is just learning to walk. You know they have zero depth-perception! We love the first pair we got him which are also great for him to get used to shoes this summer! He loves them and points to “choos” when he wants to go “owwwt!” Now that he has the right shoes we can find the perfect nap mat and lunchbox!
2. Work on one nap: He will ONLY be taking one nap at school, which is normal at about 18 months. Right now he still takes two. One shorter morning nap and a longer afternoon nap. So over the next few months we are working on the one nap transition! Pray for me!
3. Talk about school: We want Liam to be SO EXCITED for big boy school in the fall so we have already started talking about it. One great tip I got was to read lots of books about going to school and try to show him the school so he can familiarize himself with it. Liam LOVES people and says “hi” to people anytime he sees someone. I know he will do great but I know I feel better knowing we have prepared him!
We can’t wait for Liam to start this new adventure in a few months and I know the time preparing will fly by! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Make sure to check out Target online or in store and see all the great selections of Surprize by Stride Rite shoes!
Can’t wait to read more about this new chapter for Liam too! So excited, along with you! 🙂

Awwww congratulations Liam, such an exciting time for you and your parents. I hope you have loads of fun learning new things and making new friends!
I LOVE Stride Rite’s shoes for my kids. My daughter wears the Surprize by Stride Rite shoes (she’s almost 2) and I am just such a fan of how supportive they are for tiny feet. My 6.5-year-old son is sad that he’s outgrowing this particular line.
look at that little foot and little shoes! I took notes on this, Im just too excited for my 6 month old baby to grow fast and go to school too.
I’m going t need this when my babe goes to school! I’m going to be so overwhelmed and scattered 🙁
I found with my kids talking about school was huge. It really got them excited about going and made it easy to continue the conversation once they went
I can’t wait until it is warm enough to wear sandals like that again. They’re my favorite summer shoe type!
I don’t think mom can ever be fully prepared for the first day of school. That’s where the tears come in.
Aw, cute shoes! That’s too cute he’s going to school – I’m sure he’ll love it. 🙂
Awwa! Getting kids prepped and excited for school is a daunting task to say the least. These are some very useful tips. Thanks for sharing
