This past Saturday morning I woke up early because Andrew and I were planning to spend the day helping my sweet momma move into her new adorable condo. We spent the morning watching the movers, loading cars, and drinking tons of coffee.
Around 3ish Andrew went with the movers back to our place because I had been storing 2 chairs at my moms and now they are at our place. The same time he went to do that I went to get everyone lunch down the street. I was maybe 5 minutes away from my moms when I got in a car accident. I do not remember the accident happening or anything before it meaning the last thing I remember is leaving my moms. They call this retrograde amnesia. I banged my head hard on the steering wheel, the seatbelt dug into my stomach and I banged my knee on the steering column. I immediately looked for my purse which had flown to the floor to get my cell out of it. I called 911 and my mom. My mom called Andrew who wasn’t far away and then she came to the scene as well. They medics tested me out and said I was OK but if I started to feel worse to to the ER. I felt fine at the time because of all the adrenaline but I was super upset.
I drove my car back to my moms and learned on the way part of the wheel was screwed up so it’s not drivable. Thanks dad for working for Toyota and making this part easy! Also we have amazing car insurance so yay.
After helping my mom for a little bit I started to get a bad headache and feel super nauseous. Andrew called his dad and brother who are both neurologists and they suggested I go to the emergency room. My dad called his friend/cancer doctor who made sure we didn’t have to wait at the hospital. After 5 hours of having a terrible male nurse who basically tortured me with an IV, CT scans of my head, spine and abdomen and a little bit of blood loss later I was discharged with a concussion, swelled disks in my neck and bruising.
The pic above is right after the accident.
The pic above is during triage at the ER. I was considered a Fall Risk ….bracelets are fun….not
The last picture is me yesterday resting on the couch. I am not suppose to do much for a few days other than sleep and well sleep more. I probably shouldn’t be writing this post because of the computer but the brightness is super low.
I appreciate everyones calls, texts, emails, comments, and well wishes. I am lucky because it could have been worse. No one else was hurt in the accident either.
I am especially thankful for my Andrew who sat by my side at the hospital all night and held my hand as I cried and cried in pain and also has been the best caretaker ever since it happen. My parents, Andrews family and my friends have all been wonderful as well. Sending me funny videos, sweet texts and bringing yummy food.
I should feel pretty sore for a week or two and hopefully the giant goose egg on my head goes away soon.
Hopefully tomorrow’s post is much happier!
Phew. Back to resting.
