Holiday Survival Guide

This post is written by me, in partnership with RoC skincare for Socialstars #WomenWhoRoC

Thanksgiving is over and that means that the holiday parties, gift exchanges, late nights, happy hours, etc are coming at us at full speed. I love this time of year because it’s a great time to catch up with friends, hang out with coworkers in a more relaxed environment, and generally enjoy yourself. However, the parties and late nights can wreak havoc on your body and skin. I wanted to share with you guys my holiday survival guide so that in January you feel like you not only had an awesome time celebrating the holidays, but that it didn’t make your body and skin feel terrible in the process.

RoC-Holiday-Survival-Guide

  1. Drink Water: This is huge. With all the sugary sweets, the yummy drinks, and heavy foods we can forget to drink water. I mean even I will go to the hot chocolate and holiday coffee first before water. But coffee, sweets, and alcohol severely dehydrate you. I try to take a bottle of water or tumbler with me whenever I am out and about. I also make sure that for every coffee drink or alcoholic drink I have I drink a big glass of water too. This will help with that dehydrated feeling and also make sure you wake up the next day feeling a little bit better.
  2. Skincare on Point: I can’t stress enough how important it is to wash your face twice a day and take off your makeup before you go to bed. I am a skincare nut, and if you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time you know that about me! I noticed a few months ago my skin was starting to not look it’s best. It could have been the drastic change in temps or maybe it was just revolting against me, who knows. However, I did switch up my routine a bit to try some new products. The RoC® RETINOL CORREXION® Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer has been a huge lifesaver for me. One of the things I love about RoC® RETINOL CORREXION® Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer is that it has Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It also contains an exclusive combination of pure retinol and the latest sunscreen technology that is specifically engineered to deliver very broad and photostable UVA and UVB protection with an SPF 30. I have extremely sensitive skin. Having any kind of moisturizer with SPF is important. I think in the winter months it’s easy to forget about SPF when it’s 30 degrees out, but that bright sun is still capable of giving you some trouble. The moisturizer is clinically shown to visibly diminish wrinkles after eight weeks of use. This is where I say “this is 31” when I see all the wrinkles on my skin. After 12 weeks’ use, even deep wrinkles are visibly diminished. I can’t tell you enough how much I love this stuff. So much in fact that I bought some for one of my good friends and she is loving it too!RoC-Deep-Wrinkle-1 RoC-Deep-Wrinkle-2 RoC-Deep-Wrinkle-3 RoC-Deep-Wrinkle-4
  3. Don’t Play The Hunger Games: Going to a party starving, or showing up to that family Christmas dinner after not eating all day is just not a good game plan. Hey I look forward to my aunts rolls all year and stuffing don’t even get me started. But year after year I will just not eat anything else and then I eat all the foods. Then I feel all the guilt. So if you have a big food related event in the evenings make sure you eat a solid breakfast and even a good light lunch. Sometimes I will have a big smoothie right before because I fill them full of fruits, veggies, and Greek yogurt and that is very helpful to make sure I am making good choices. If you have an early in the day event with food, grab a smaller plate. Sometimes using a smaller plate can help you portion control and only grab a little of everything. You can indulge, heck you can even use it as your cheat day, but remember that the next day you aren’t going to be happy about eating five rolls, two pieces of pie and coming back for thirds of potatoes. A little bit can go a long way.

So there you have it, my holiday survival guide. Drink lots of water, take care of your skin with a good moisturizer and SPF, and don’t go crazy with the foods. If you keep these three things in mind you will come out of the holidays with great memories and very little guilt!

My biggest holiday goal (tip?) this year is to take a step back and remember to enjoy it. I always feel like I spend more time stressing than I do enjoying.

  4. I love your tips and I totally agree on the drinking water one. You’re right — with all the sweets and goodies, it’s important to keep that balanced with a lot of water! I’m also pregnant this holiday season so I have an even better reason to stay hydrated. And my holiday survival tip? ENJOY the holidays! So many people get too stressed out! It’s all about building memories with your family, so why stress!
