Monthly Wellness Series: Month One

Hi Friends! I decided that this year I want to focus on a different type of monthly wellness as the year progresses. I was hoping you all could do it with me. So each month we will have a different focus. This first month’s focus is going to be exercise and moving our bodies.

Monthly Wellness Series: Month One

Why I think it’s important: I think moving my body is the best way for me to feel good each day.  I also notice a huge difference in both my anxiety and my sleep when I do it. Getting in a good hard workout is not necessarily realistic each day which is why I try to do something, even a walk with my kids. It doesn’t have to be a full hour-long workout or a big thing! I think showing my kids what a healthy habit is like moving our bodies, getting outside, doing yoga is so important. My son LOVES to come to do yoga with me. He thinks it’s so fun and asks all the time if he can “workout with mommy” when he’s bigger. I also think it’s important to have something for myself every day. Something I can schedule in and know is time to work on ME. I think as moms we have to have something for ourselves.

What I do: So I am a BIG fan of working out and routine. Each morning I get up around 5:30 and do about 45 minutes of cardio. Then I do weights. Once or twice a week I do Melissa Wood Health which I talked about here. I also walk every day. I have spoken many times about how I do try to get to 10,000 steps a day. I also love to mix in yoga and barre when I can which is one reason I love MWH.

The Challenge for this month: I challenged myself to move my body for 30 minutes a day and to do 10,000 steps a day. I would love it if you participated in one of them with me! I think knowing we have a goal each day, or a challenge we can work towards is great motivation.

So tell me…

Will you be participating in my monthly challenges?

What do you do to move your body each day?

I really do need to get moving more! As a freelance writer, I spend so much time just SITTING. I’ve found that I need to be super intentional about moving every once in a while. So sad!

You’re incredible! I swear, people who can get up that early and work out like that are superhuman haha. I think a lot of my lethargy is due to my chronic illness, but in general, rising early and being active are both incredibly challenging for me. About the most I can do is yoga. But you definitely inspire me to do it more often!

One of my goals is to hit 10,000 steps a day too…along with exercising at least 3 times a week…for now, then moving on up to 5 times.

I am working on 20 minutes per day right now. I already get up at 5:15 and can’t get up much earlier than that. 20 minutes of workout gives me enough time to shower and get ready for the day before I have to get my boys up and ready for school. Especially on days I am subbing and have to leave the house early. But it’s so important to move in some way each day.

I’ll definitely need to start a challenge like this. At least move and so some kind of activity. Even if it’s just walking around my neighborhood. Love this idea!

I do yoga every day for 30 minutes, walk to work and back home, and then try to do at least 10-20 minutes of exercise with the students. I want to have an active day.

I love this! I think lately, because of my dog, I’m constantly moving. He’s still a puppy so he requires quite a few walks throughout the day so I’ve found I’m walking at least 3 miles with him, plus, I work out and run another 3 miles in the mornings around 4 to 5 times a week. It definitely was a lot of mental exercises to get motivated to do this but it turns out, motivation isn’t as necessary as momentum is to keep going!

  12. Wow, you are an amazing woman! I read your post and admire you! I truly believe that you are a hero, even if you only thought about it! And you know you inspired me and now I want to try to participate! I will try not to be lazy, because I have a sedentary job and I need to move more! I also really want to walk 10,000 steps a day! I am sure that I can, and if I understand that all this is not done by me alone, then it will not be so difficult for me) Thank you very much for such a challenge, I’m starting!
