Reasons To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I have always been a really quiet and shy person. Shocking to a lot of people because I’m pretty open. But when I first meet people I tend to act very shy. There have been times in my life that I have been called a lot of names or stuck up because of it. The truth is that new situations scare me. I wanted to share some reasons to step out of your comfort zone and how those can be beneficial to those of us that tend to be more introverted.

Reasons To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

  1. You might miss out on meeting your best friend. When I moved to our suburb I didn’t know anyone out here. I was so nervous that would never make friends. By stepping out of my comfort zone I met a new friend who has become one of my best friends!
  2. You learn new things. Anytime you step out of your comfort zone you can learn something new and even learn something new about yourself!
  3. You discover new places. There have been a lot of blogging conferences I have gone to where I have not known anyone going or been to the city before. I take these opportunities as time to step out of my comfort zone and explore a new place. Traveling on your own is so much fun!
  4. You try new products. I have talked before about how much I love LISTERINE® products and right now Target has some that really caught my eyes. I saw the deco bottles. Y’all it’s the same LISTERINE® product in a really fun and funky bottle. Step out of your comfort zone and try these Listerine deco bottles sold exclusively at Target and Target.com. Using LISTERINE® is a great time to be bold in your dental health! Be a part of LISTERINE’S® bring out the bold campaign and be more bold in your life!

  5. You try new foods. I am the pickiest eater ever. Aside from maybe my best friend, Ashley. But seriously I am picky. Every now and then I get the urge to try a new food and I feel so good about stepping out of my comfort zone.
  6. You feel good about yourself. When you try something new or go someplace new you feel so proud and good about yourself. Something about knowing you’ve done something that is so unlike you can really make your day better.
  7. You stand up for yourself. Another way to “be bold” is to stand up for yourself more. I am not great about standing up for myself. I tend to avoid any kind of confrontation but I feel like such a stronger person when I do stand up for myself.

To step out of your comfort zone can be scary and make you anxious but it will always make you feel good.

I would love to know how you step out of your comfort zone?

I’m partnering with #LISTERINE as part of a LISTERINE® sponsored series for Socialstars™

Great post. It’s so hard to step out of my comfort zone and I don’t do it very often but I got my current job by doing just that and hopefully the business I’m about to start takes off so I can once again take that leap of faith and change jobs. It is really scary though? All your reasons are exactly why I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone more often.

I also used to be really shy but once I started forcing myself to go out and meet new people I started having so much more fun! Travelling alone was also a really big step for me in learning to step out of my comfort zone and be more adventurous.

To me, stepping out of comfort zone has always given a lot of learning and self-discovery. Recently, taking on a new class, called for a huge commitment from me – juggling family, kids, work, and then this additional task of learning something so new. It was painful in the beginning, but the fruits of labor are truly rewarding, now!

I’m an introvert too, so going to conferences pushes me outside the comfort zone big time. I sometimes do need to escape to my room to recharge though, but I keep doing the conference circuit anyhow.

I full-heartedly agree with #1. When I was a senior in high school, none of my friends had the same lunch period as me. One day early in the semester I saw one of my friends I hadn’t touched base with at lunch and I was excited because I thought, “Maybe he has the same lunch period as me!” That wasn’t the case, so after he left I sat at the table full of people he was talking with. I figured if they knew and liked my friend, maybe they’d like me. So I broke out a deck of Uno cards and asked, “Wanna play?” It became the cornerstone of our early friendships. That group makes up my closest friends and we’re still super into card games! I wouldn’t have made those friends if I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone!

Omg Neely, we’re the same person. People used to think I was stuck up too because I was really shy. I have gotten better about it but I’m still fairly shy when I first meet people.

I can identify completely with being called names because of my introverted nature. I am impressed though because I seem to be outgrowing it. I am an indoor person and outdoors stress the life out of me. Your tips will surely come in handy.

It’s been a while since I stepped out of my comfort zone–as a matter of fact I started describing myself as a happy hermit! Of course that is not totally true as I have a very active and social 94 year old Mom who I have to keep taking places–and of course running to the bookkeeping clients that I still have (I am semi retired!)

LIFE IS TOO SHORT…. its not practical to stay always on the safe side.. we only live once and we should enjoy it…. bit, to be able to enjoy it means you have to step out of your comfort zone…. be adventurous, meet people and learn from experiences, regardless whether its a bad or good experience coz its where we learn new lessons in life.

  31. Stepping out of my comfort zone is something that feels really uncommon for me. But, lately, since I moved from California to TN, I’m finding that I’m forced to do it a lot. And as much as it makes me feel uncomfortable, I know it’s helping me develop into a stronger person!
