I have always been a really quiet and shy person. Shocking to a lot of people because I’m pretty open. But when I first meet people I tend to act very shy. There have been times in my life that I have been called a lot of names or stuck up because of it. The truth is that new situations scare me. I wanted to share some reasons to step out of your comfort zone and how those can be beneficial to those of us that tend to be more introverted.

Reasons To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone
- You might miss out on meeting your best friend. When I moved to our suburb I didn’t know anyone out here. I was so nervous that would never make friends. By stepping out of my comfort zone I met a new friend who has become one of my best friends!
- You learn new things. Anytime you step out of your comfort zone you can learn something new and even learn something new about yourself!
- You discover new places. There have been a lot of blogging conferences I have gone to where I have not known anyone going or been to the city before. I take these opportunities as time to step out of my comfort zone and explore a new place. Traveling on your own is so much fun!
- You try new products. I have talked before about how much I love LISTERINE® products and right now Target has some that really caught my eyes. I saw the deco bottles. Y’all it’s the same LISTERINE® product in a really fun and funky bottle. Step out of your comfort zone and try these Listerine deco bottles sold exclusively at Target and Target.com. Using LISTERINE® is a great time to be bold in your dental health! Be a part of LISTERINE’S® bring out the bold campaign and be more bold in your life!

- You try new foods. I am the pickiest eater ever. Aside from maybe my best friend, Ashley. But seriously I am picky. Every now and then I get the urge to try a new food and I feel so good about stepping out of my comfort zone.
- You feel good about yourself. When you try something new or go someplace new you feel so proud and good about yourself. Something about knowing you’ve done something that is so unlike you can really make your day better.
- You stand up for yourself. Another way to “be bold” is to stand up for yourself more. I am not great about standing up for myself. I tend to avoid any kind of confrontation but I feel like such a stronger person when I do stand up for myself.
To step out of your comfort zone can be scary and make you anxious but it will always make you feel good.
I would love to know how you step out of your comfort zone?

Great advice.. I’m guilty of staying in my comfort zone, but I know I’m missing out on a lot.
These are great reasons to step out of your comfort zone. I love meeting new friends and it usually takes stepping out of my comfort zone!
Great post. It’s so hard to step out of my comfort zone and I don’t do it very often but I got my current job by doing just that and hopefully the business I’m about to start takes off so I can once again take that leap of faith and change jobs. It is really scary though? All your reasons are exactly why I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone more often.
I also used to be really shy but once I started forcing myself to go out and meet new people I started having so much more fun! Travelling alone was also a really big step for me in learning to step out of my comfort zone and be more adventurous.
I am working on stepping out of my comfort zone with my blog and quitting a job I no longer enjoy. Great read!
Awesome post, Neely! Stepping out of your comfort zone is so important!
I love this!! Putting yourself outside of your comfort zone can lead to so many amazing things to happen in your life!
These are all great reasons. The older I get the more bold I get and the more I do step out of my comfort zone.
To me, stepping out of comfort zone has always given a lot of learning and self-discovery. Recently, taking on a new class, called for a huge commitment from me – juggling family, kids, work, and then this additional task of learning something so new. It was painful in the beginning, but the fruits of labor are truly rewarding, now!
I absolutely adore that you stepping out of your comfort zone got you new friends who are so close to you now. Discovering new places and plates are just as great too! Annnnd those listerine bottle are too darn cute!!!!

I love these tips! They are all so true! I love that last one, be bold and stand up for yourself. So important. Thanks for sharing!
Those are fun bottles!! I have always been the opposite of shy, but I still find it difficult to step out of my comfort zone.
Great reasons! I become a creature of habit when it comes to food, so I need to step out of my comfort zone there a little more.
I’m an introvert too, so going to conferences pushes me outside the comfort zone big time. I sometimes do need to escape to my room to recharge though, but I keep doing the conference circuit anyhow.
I full-heartedly agree with #1. When I was a senior in high school, none of my friends had the same lunch period as me. One day early in the semester I saw one of my friends I hadn’t touched base with at lunch and I was excited because I thought, “Maybe he has the same lunch period as me!” That wasn’t the case, so after he left I sat at the table full of people he was talking with. I figured if they knew and liked my friend, maybe they’d like me. So I broke out a deck of Uno cards and asked, “Wanna play?” It became the cornerstone of our early friendships. That group makes up my closest friends and we’re still super into card games! I wouldn’t have made those friends if I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone!
These are so great! I need to do better at stepping out of my comfort zone – I always love when I do!
I’ve been trying to be better about stepping out of my comfort zone – it’s not easy to do!
I couldn’t step out of my comfort zone for years. Sometimes I still struggle with it, it’s a conscious battle to overcome.
stepping out of the comfort zone really teaches you so much about yourself and definitely makes your a better person. for me, its public speaking and i have been trying to take as many opportunities as possible.
Omg Neely, we’re the same person. People used to think I was stuck up too because I was really shy. I have gotten better about it but I’m still fairly shy when I first meet people.
xoxo, Jenny
I am an adventurous gal by nature so I do go out of my comfort zone very often. Liek you say trying new things, new foods and even going places I never considered. Thanks for sharing the tips!
I can identify completely with being called names because of my introverted nature. I am impressed though because I seem to be outgrowing it. I am an indoor person and outdoors stress the life out of me. Your tips will surely come in handy.
It’s been a while since I stepped out of my comfort zone–as a matter of fact I started describing myself as a happy hermit! Of course that is not totally true as I have a very active and social 94 year old Mom who I have to keep taking places–and of course running to the bookkeeping clients that I still have (I am semi retired!)
LIFE IS TOO SHORT…. its not practical to stay always on the safe side.. we only live once and we should enjoy it…. bit, to be able to enjoy it means you have to step out of your comfort zone…. be adventurous, meet people and learn from experiences, regardless whether its a bad or good experience coz its where we learn new lessons in life.
All great reasons to step out of your comfort zone! I am a pretty outgoing person but there are times when I am shy. I have also been called names for that reason. I also have to get to know someone first before I become good friends with you.
I adore this!! Putting yourself outside of your customary range of familiarity can prompt such a variety of astounding things to happen in your life!
Great tips! I be entirely honest, I have a relatively small comfort zone. I’m pretty shy, and don’t step out of that zone often! Definitely something I want to work on though 🙂
Love those new bottles! They look great in the bathroom! I totally agree that stepping out of your comfort zone is a great thing and can lead to so many happy things in life.
This is such great advice!!! It’s so hard to go do new things and step away from what you’re comfortable with, but it really is so important!
I’ve always stepped out of my comfort zone and, while it has afforded me many wonderful life opportunities and stories, not all of it has been pleasant… but that is life isn’t it? Ups and downs make the world go round! 🙂
Stepping out of my comfort zone is something that feels really uncommon for me. But, lately, since I moved from California to TN, I’m finding that I’m forced to do it a lot. And as much as it makes me feel uncomfortable, I know it’s helping me develop into a stronger person!
ok. thinking about it. nice post
Thank you for clearing my doubt about optimal anxiety..sometimes I used to put a lot of pressure on myself which would result in non performance for some time or low level of performance..I would try to maintain an optimal level of stress
