Summer Musts

Today it is storming, chilly and gross out side in Dallas, TX. This got me thinking about some of my favorite Summer Musts here in the city I live in, even though most of these things are things you can find in any city or town.

1. Patio Time: I love going to places like The Rustic or Katy Trail Ice House here in Dallas and sitting on the patio, having drinks with friends and listening to music. They also have fun games like corn hole that you can play and always a great sports game on. If the weather is nice its really the perfect way to spend an afternoon or evening.

2. On July 3rd here in Dallas we have a huge fireworks show/event called Kaboom town. I have only missed it a few times. One being last year when Andrew and I were in Chicago. We are so excited to go this year and see some fabulous fireworks to kick off the long Holiday weekend.

3. I just love Summer movies: You really get a good mix of great action/superhero movies with fun rom-coms. Every Summer has a few standouts and so far this year I loved the new X-Men movie. Have you seen it? It’s fantastic! I also loved The Fault in our Stars. There are tons of others I can’t wait to see. How about you?

4. I forgot until last week how something as simple as a yogurt date night could really be a great thing to do on a random weekday. Andrew and I walked to Yumilicious, yogurt place about 3 blocks away. We also have a pinkberry across the street so it was quite the conundrum. I mean major problems right? haha. It was fun to get yogurt, top it with terrible for you toppings and walk home eating the yummy yogurt and just chatting. Perfect date night!

5. Oh Summer TV: It can be so good and so bad. I prefer the bad. For instance I got sucked into the Kate plus 8 special last week and why oh why am I still fascinated with this family 10 years later? Also kind of excited to watch the bachelor temptation island hot mess that starts soon. Why use brain cells?

So what are some of your Summer musts?

“Why use brain cells?” LOL!!! I definitely have to catch up on some t.v. this summer while avoiding the hot TX sun. Great list.

A weekly trip to Menchie’s for froyo is one of my favorite things! Summer or not, I love a topping bar! I can’t wait to get at my DVR later to catch up on Sister Wives, so I totally get the terrible TV adoration.

So where do you guys watch Kaboomtown from? A few years ago, we watched from Cantina Laredo… and another year we tried to watch from a parking lot… but the traffic over there tends to get really crazy!! For the past few years, we’ve been doing Fair Park from a parking garage downtown (across from the Majestic), but admittedly, that’s still pretty far!

  5. Perusing my usual blogs, and for whatever reason I forgot you’re in Dallas! Next time you’re at Katy Trail, check out the app I work for–TabbedOut! I am pretty sure we’re running a deal right now when you use the app to pay, you get $5 off your bill. Email me if you’re interested in checking out and possibly reviewing the app and I’ll see if I can bump that up a bit 😉

I totally didn’t mean to have my work pants on, I really was just checking your updates 🙂 I loved the X-men movie, too! It’s convinced me I need to give the comics (or at least the comics this storyline is based on) a try.

  6. We are checking things off our summer bucket list pretty fast so far. I have went to my daughter’s home and enjoyed a nice weekend in the Atlanta area. I have had grandchildren spending the night quite a bit.
We watched movies all weekend this weekend, some were bad. It was great! LoL

We went to see 22 Jump Street today, which was hilarious. I had been looking forward to it! You’re right about simple little dates breaking up the week! As much as I love netflix and reading, getting out is good!

I never thought about yogurt as a date, but you’re right! It’s fun, yummy, and easy. I’m in love with the Froyo yogurt down the street and always take the kids there, so I’ll switch it up for date night. Thanks!
