I am a big TV watcher but I am an even bigger reader. It’s always fun when a book I love becomes a show or a movie. I feel like this is happening even more with all the streaming services available now. Obviously, this is not a new concept. This has been happening for years. However, I wanted to share what I think the best book to movie/tv show adaptations have been recently! We also did a fun episode about this on our podcast!
The Best Book To Movie/TV Show Adaptations Recently
Normal People: If you really want to feel your feelings start here. I liked the book but I LOVED the show. I have rewatched it a few times. It’s about Connell and MaryAnne who meet in high school and start an affair that carries off and on through their 4 years at college. Hulu
Big Little Lies: I honestly didn’t love this book so I was glad about the changes they made to the show. This came out in 2017 and had a second season and honestly, I would watch a million seasons of Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman! HBO.
The Summer I Turned Pretty: I am for sure not the target audience here but I loved it just the same. So much nostalgia of teen love! Amazon.
The Hating Game: The book was extremely predictable as was the movie but it’s adorable, and the main guy is not bad to look at! Love the enemies to lovers trope. You can rent it on Amazon.
Conversations With Friends: Same author as Normal People and the same team behind the show so it’s very similar in style to Normal People but a VERY different topic. This one does deal with an affair. Hulu
Where The Crawdads Sing: This is the newest on the list and honestly I hated this book. I didn’t even finish it which I rarely do. But the movie, In My Opinion, is so much better!
Anatomy Of A Scandal: I really loved both the book and the TV show here. The cast is incredible. Netflix
Bridgerton Series: I didn’t read the Bridgerton books until I had watched the first season on Netflix but I really loved most of the books. So far I have loved the first two seasons of the show as well.
My Friend Anna: I was pretty obsessed with the Anna Delvy book and read pretty much every article on the subject. So I was excited when Shonda Rhimes (a favorite) adapted it for Netflix. It did not disappoint.
Firefly Lane: One of my favorite books and the show to me is even better. The casting was perfect and it’s such a sweet story of friendship.
Little Fires Everywhere: Again, I didn’t LOVE the book but I really enjoyed the show. I think the casting is what made it so great. Hulu
The Last Letter From Your Lover: This is one that will break you but it’s so so so good! If you are a fan of a good romance this one will suck you in. Netflix.
What is one of your favorite book to TV/Movie adaptations?
Well, I loved Game of Thrones until the last season. Then, it single-handedly ruined the entire thing for me. =(
The only 3 I recognize are Where the Crawdads Sing (loved the book, haven’t seen the movie), Bridgerton (love BOTH the books and the show), and Little Fires Everywhere (book was decent, show was really good). I’ll have to try some of the others on your list!
I need to watch these, I haven’t seen any! I enjoyed Big Little Lies the book though.
Hhhhmmmm…according to your list, it would be the “Last Letter From Your Lover”.
Wow! This list is awesome, a great lineup for our movie marathon session. Me, I love the Hunger Games and the Harry Potter saga. I’m a kid at heart!
Interesting, I haven’t seen any of these in the list. I will check some of them. Thank you for sharing!
Books are usually better than the movies or television shows they are made into. But there are some notable exceptions and you mention quite a few of the best!
I loved Normal People, definitely felt a lot of feelings! And Bridgerton was a real treat too 🙂
Thanks for the list! I will forward your post to my cousin. She is a bookworm and loves these genres!
WOW, I haven’t see a single one of these. Am I so much behind?
