We don’t have a ton of screen time rules in our house. I didn’t grow up with any and I love to read and do that over watching TV any day. My kids however do watch mostly educational shows. That’s not to say they don’t watch movies or shows that are just brain candy but we really try to encourage education TV shows. I get a lot of questions from friends about which ones they watch so I wanted to put this together of the most educational TV shows for kids (6 and under). Not to say there aren’t more, these are just the ones we watch!
The Most Educational TV Shows For Kids (6 and Under)
Number Blocks: Liam is 5.5 and in Kindergarten and he LOVES math! This is the show he chooses to watch the most. I am in awe of how much he’s learned from it. More than just adding and subtracting he’s learned to count by 2’s and 10’s and so much.
Little Einsteins: This is something I let both my kids watch from an early age and I love the music and art components of it. It’s also a very soothing show.
Daniel Tiger: Daniel Tiger is great for life lessons. I honestly find myself quoting the show frequently. Especially “when you feel so mad that you want to roar take a deep breath and count to four!”
The Fixies: We LOVE this show for STEM purposes. It’s very fun and educational and one of our favorites to let the kids watch.
Word Party: I would say this is more targeted towards young preschool-aged children learning words. Super cute show.
Super Why: I love this for more of an educational adventure show. Liam was VERY into this around ages 3 and 4.
Story Bots: Story Bots is great to learn all sorts of things. For example, Liam learned about who invented radio waves and also the different parts of an ear.
Ada Twist Scientist: Obviously this is a learning show but also focuses on life lessons such as a friend with Autism and turning negative situations into positive situations.
What do you think the most educational TV shows for kids are? Would love more suggestions!
These are great picks. It’s important to make sure our children’s entertainment is as educational as it is entertaining.
Great picks. Daniel Tiger is one of my favorite shows for the kids. It’s educational, they love it, and it’s not annoying like some kids’ shows are.
I don’t have kids yet but this is a good list! For now, what I can do is share this with my mommy friends! I am sure they will thank me for this! ahaha!
My kids are teenagers now, but I can certainly remember shows like these. I don’t recall any of the ones on your list, so these must be newer programs. But they all sound excellent!
My nephew really loves Number Blocks he always watch it almost the whole day!
Great suggestions, I will share this with my family. I’m sure they will find them interesting as well.
When I have kids I will prefer they watch more educational shows for sure! Thanks for the suggestions 🙂
I have always loved number blocks as did my kids. It’s fun and educational.
I tried to get my daughter to watch the Number blocks, but she was not interested. I knew there and then that she’ll struggle with maths.
This post makes me a little sad… My kids LOVED Super Why! Now I have 3 teenagers. How did that happen? Thanks for taking me down memory lane.
I’ve never heard of any of these, partially because I have no kids. But it’s a great thing to keep in mind when I’m minding the grandkids!
Thank you for the list! I’m gonna open it for my kids to watch.
