5 Tips To Make It Through A Workday At Home

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tazo® Tea. All opinions are 100% mine.

Working from home is one of my favorite things. I love being able to take care of our house, let workers in, and make my own schedule. But man some days just feel REALLY long and drag on. So here are 5 tips to make it through a workday at home, especially the days that feel like they may never end!

5 Tips To Make It Through A Workday At Home

1. Start off early: Even if you work from home, that’s no reason to sleep late. I get up when Andrew gets up, which even when I’m exhausted is still helpful. I can get some work done, eat breakfast, and have my workout all done by 8 or 9! I already feel very productive, which makes me want to get even more done.

2. Take a Break for some tea: About mid morning and mid afternoon I tend to need a break for about 15 minutes. Tazo® Tea is one of my favorite drinks to take a break with! During the first several weeks of my pregnancy I could not stand the taste or smell of any kind of coffee! So I started drinking more tea. Now I think tea is probably my preference. My personal favorites are the Awake™ English BreakfastZen™, and Passion®. I tend to lean towards the Awake in the morning and Zen and Passion for an afternoon treat! Some of the finest teas are made with the finest quality tea leaves, spices and botanicals to create unexpected blends that are always vibrantly delicious which you can find at your local grocery store. I personally found mine at Target! They have a HUGE selection!

3. Change your scenery: If your home office, living room, kitchen table, or wherever you work is starting to stagnate your productivity and make your workday feel longer then change up your view a little. Move to another spot in your house, pack up your stuff and head to a coffee shop, go sit outside in a park. It can really do wonders to make your day better, and change your attitude if your work from home day is dragging.

4. Set daily goals: I make a to do list and a goal list for every single day. This is so important to my day! I wake up knowing exactly what I need to do every day and what the most important tasks are. I also have a list of goals of things I really want to accomplish that day. So if I ever feel like I’m slacking, I can look at my lists and see tasks I can tackle.

5. Make tomorrow’s to do list: When I finish that day’s to do list I create my lists for the next day. These lists have blog, business, personal, everything on them. If I need to run an errand or go to an appt, it’s on there. I never forget to get things done this way!

I would love to know what your tips to make it through a workday from home are!

Great tips! I have to fit working in between watching my boys, so it’s always something new each day. I need to be better about setting a schedule. I love Tazo Tea! The Awake and the Passion are my favorites too. I sometimes add the Chai in the late afternoons too.

Oh man I wished I worked from home – planning on it one day! Honestly, a lot of these tips are great for those of us that go into the office too. We need to start early, set goals, and occasionally even get a little different scenery (For me that means taking a walk outside the building!)

  5. A change of scenery really helps some days. It’s nice to go and work somewhere different, but it’s also nice to just take a break, walk the dog and then get back into work with a clear head.

When I was working from home full time (or when I do it now from time to time), it’s all about keeping my schedule and routine pretty much the same, despite being in a different environment!

I am a WAHM now so its a little different, but before kids I worked at home for about 4 years. I used to take a big break in the afternoon and have my downtime then rather at night. That worked for me because I would often have to take conference calls from Ireland (I am in Japan) so I could spend my nights on the phone. If I didn’t take the big break in the afternoon I could easily work 15 hour days without realising it!

  11. The daily goals is a huge thing for me, but I couple it with time blocking. Each night, I do a big brain dump of all the things that need to get done, then I rate each item A-must be done, B-needs to be done, C-want to get done. Then I block off time for them according to importance. It’s made a huge difference in productivity!

These tips are great. I would also add make time to exercise. It helps me break up my day as well as reenergize. Sometimes, just a quick five-minute break from sitting at my desk or on my couch typing away. Betty Rocker has great two-minute workouts that are easy to do no matter where you are. The other thing I do is turn up the tunes, I am a huge music lover and it helps keep my energy up and allows me to find my creative vibe.

  17. I’ve thought about working from home but just not sure if I’m disciplined enough! These are some good tips if I decide to go that route. Something else I try to do when I’m blogging at home – if I’m just typing up a post and not actually using the internet I put my laptop into airplane mode. That way I don’t get distracted as easily!

  29. Setting daily goals and having a schedule is a must to be productive when working from home. We can really get distracted when not in a formal office environment and of course at tea break is always welcomed.
