5 Ways For More “Me” Time

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Folgers. All opinions are 100% mine.

The other day I was commenting on how fast this year has gone by. Here we are over a third of the way through. That’s NUTS! As time moves by more quickly I realize how little “me” time most people get. Me time is EXTREMELY important to not only your sanity but being a better wife, mom, friend, daughter, etc. Taking time for yourself makes you happier and more likely be able to focus on the needs of others. I want to share 5 ways for more “me” time so that you can make the most of every single day.

1. Before everyone wakes up: It sounds crazy but setting your alarm for 30 minutes before the rest of your house is set to get up can actually help. I know for me sometimes on weekends I will wake up 30 minutes to an hour before Andrew. Not because I just really love 7 AM, but because I can take time to make some oatmeal, have some coffee, read, watch a TV show I love (that he does not), or even just blog for a while. On the weekends we usually do house stuff and run errands so this ensures that I get a little time for just me. Lately I have been trying to drink coffee at home as much as possible. We tried the Folgers Instant Coffee and while I wasn’t a huge Instant Coffee fan in the past, I really like it a lot. It’s great when you are in a rush and some mornings I just don’t have time for anything else. It takes just minutes and the taste and smell are amazing. I can’t be the only person who loves the smell of coffee grounds? Ok good! Also these Folgers Recipes are great to give you some creative ideas for your morning boost!

2. At the gym: Another way I like to take me time is by getting a good workout in. Taking a yoga class, doing a pilates session, even just doing an hour on the elliptical does WONDERS for my day. I see a huge difference in my mood the days I work out vs the days I do not. I make the time every day to work out even if its a 30 minute walk.

3. Take time for pampering: Putting on a face mask while you cook dinner, painting your nails, taking 10 minutes to put on makeup if that’s what makes you feel good. These are just a few things you can do to give yourself some me time.

4. Write it out: Journaling, blogging, writing in a word doc, taking a pad of paper and a pen and sitting outside and writing just to write. I write so often things that I never publish here on the blog. Why? Because writing is a form of me time that I love. It is also extremely therapeutic to write it out.

5. After everyone goes to sleep: Kind of like waking up before everyone else, maybe when the husband and kids or whoever it is you live with go to sleep just take 30 minutes and do something for yourself. One of my good friends is a wife and mom of 3 young kids. She tells me all the time she’s a huge night person and she loves to stay up late reading or watching Netflix because that’s her time for herself. Everyone’s is going to be different!

Finding that time can be difficult. I imagine once you have kids it becomes even more difficult, but even taking 20 minutes a day to enjoy some coffee while you journal, or check your email or read can make all the difference in your mood and the way the rest of your day goes.

How do you find ways for more “me” time?

Living by myself you’d think that I get a lot of “me” time, but with two phones, an iPad and multiple computers there’s always someone or something vying for my attention. I’ve taken to going on runs with an old iPod as a way to get some daily “me” time. My apartment complex is tucked away and I can get a good 2 mile run in without having to worry about hitting a major street. I love it!

The nice thing about single life and living alone is that there’s no one to interfere with my “me” time but when I’ve had roommates or lived at home, it was very important. Those quiet moments before anyone else is up or when i’m running at the gym become that much more special!

I usually take time out for myself first thing in the morning before my son wakes up or in the evening when everyone is in bed. At night I watch a tv show that I enjoy and in the morning I usually read and have my coffee.

My me time includes blogging – it’s the time of the day to unwind and connect with like-minded others.
Pampering myself like going to the hair salon is definitely something I enjoy doing by myself. It helps me focus and get my thoughts sorted out.

Yes to all of these! I can’t say that I normally wake up early to have some me time but when I do it’s really nice. I love gym time and of course pampering myself is always nice.

I have to drive 30 minutes to work everyday so I take this time for myself to have fun singing to the radio or think things over. Love Folgers coffee , I put it in my reusable kurieg pod because I don’t have a traditional coffee pot.
