Having a 5 week old baby is hard. There, I said it. I love that little boy with all of my heart, but I am tired! I do try to do a few things every day to feel good about myself and perk myself up so I wanted to share 10 things I do to feel good about myself with you guys. These can be done by anyone at any time. If you need a boost or a pick me up these are for you!

10 Things I Do To Feel Good About Myself
- I take a shower every single day. I can’t tell you how many people told me I would go days without showering when I had a baby. I am here to tell all you first time moms or moms to be out there that, it is simply not true. I have showered every day and you can too! haha!
- I keep up with skincare. Every morning and night I have a skincare routine (on the blog soon!) that I am adamant about doing. I make time for this every morning and evening.
- I take vitamins. I still take my prenatal vitamins every day and I have added some Nature’s Bounty® Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies into the mix as well. Having a baby does a number on your body. Your hormones are out of whack and strange things happen to your hair, skin, and nails. Nature’s Bounty supports lustrous hair and hair health, supports vibrant skin and skin health, helps support nail health and healthy nails*. With a mix of vital nutrients including Biotin, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, Nature’s Bounty® Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies and Softgels work from within to support lustrous hair, vibrant skin and healthy nails*. Nature’s Bounty® Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies are full of vitamins to help you feel healthy, feel beautiful and feel well*. Perfect for me right now. I noticed my hair not acting as its usual self and the delicious Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails strawberry gummies contain 2,500 mcg of Biotin per serving and Vitamin C & E*. It’s really been helping me a lot. Visit the beauty aisle of your nearest Walgreens store to purchase Nature’s Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies and Softgels.

- I take time to sweat everyday. I take the baby on walks every single day weather permitting, and if it’s not good weather I find a way to get my workout in. Even if it’s walking 10K steps around the house daily or doing some yoga while he naps. Getting a workout in is very important to me and when I am cleared for full workouts next week you bet I’ll be doing that daily!
- I nourish my body. I make a green smoothie every single day and try to snack mostly on fruits and veggies. I have cut out most carbs, sugars, and all processed foods. Nourishing my body is important not just to me but to ensure I am in the best health for my son.
- I read. I try to read every single day. Usually a book but sometimes it’s just a few articles that make me think and expand my knowledge.
- I treat myself. Sometimes it’s a mani/pedi without the baby attached to my side or maybe it’s just a trip to Starbucks to get a latte.
- I talk to my mom. My mom is my biggest cheerleader and she is always there for me to vent about mom stuff, life stuff, etc. She always makes me feel better about myself.
- I keep up with my friends. Having a new baby can mean responding to texts 3 days later, or forgetting birthdays, but I try really hard to keep up with my friends to my best ability. It’s important to work on friendships all the time.
- I work. My blog is very important to me and I am so blessed to be able to stay home full time while also earning a good income. Taking time out of my day while he naps or when Andrew gets home, allows me to work and write, which makes me feel good. Knowing I am contributing to our household makes me feel good.
I have found that taking time to do things I do to make me feel good about myself make me a better wife, mom, daughter, and friend.

I do more or less the same things as you to feel good every day. I seriously don’t get how people can NOT shower daily. I don’t wash my hair every day but I’ve got to rinse myself even if I don’t go outside. It really refreshes me!

YES to all of these things. Except the showering. I didn’t even shower every day BEFORE I had kids. 😛
What simple but BRILLIANT tips to take care of US! These are no-brainers, aren’t they? but we tend to forget about them – or I do, anyway! Thanks so much for this.
The How-to Guru
I talk to my mom every day too.
Oooh those gummies sound awesome. I think I want to try those to see how they work for me 🙂
I love these tips! Even though I don’t have a baby (yet) I think it’s so important to get into a habit of making self care a part of your day. Too many of us too often forget to fill up our own cup.
Such great tips to follow – whether you are a new mom or not!
I remember those first months and how tired I felt all the time.
It is so important to take time for yourself and to take care of yourself!
Great read, Neely! xxx
Self-care does wonders to make you feel better, both physically and mentally. Love these ideas you share!
It sounds like you are really good at taking care of yourself. Good for you! I love those gummies for adults.
I need to be better about taking my vitamins! I am really forgetful and will miss a few days throughout the week. Which, I’m sure, causes the vitamins to lose its effectiveness if I’m not taking it consistently!
Staying healthy and active is a must and something everyone should take the time to do for themselves.
I’m all about self love and care! I usually workout, have a nice breakfast and unplug everyday to feel good.
Talking to my mom and dad helps a lot too! Love them!
I keep up with my skincare religious too, even if I don’t shower. ha!
I’m bookmarking this post to remind myself exactly what I know I should be doing every day but definitely am not *hides face*. Also, I wish I had a shower but there are showers at the gym so maybe if I gym more, I can shower more!!
Emmie xo
These are great tips! Being a good mom means taking good care of you too! It’s so important to keep our bodies healthy especially since there are some things we can’t control, like less sleep!
I love that you are keeping yourself a priority. My goal when my first was born was to let her be a very welcome, loved, PART of me… Rather than becoming all I had. And I’m laughing bc I wrote an entire post about how taking care of my skin (3 kids 3 and under) is basically the equivalent of going to the spa these days! FYI- I showered every day, too!!!! With 3 (3yo, almost 2yo, 9 week old) it’s been a little tougher this time around- not because I can’t find time but by the time bedtime rolls around I can’t remember who I bathed??? Did I shower that day? Which kid got washed? No clue!

These are all great things to do to make yourself feel better! I need to get on the vitamin game, for real!
I have 2 school age kids, a toddler, and am due in 2 weeks so i know what you mean about being tired! Congrats on your little one, btw!
I enjoy blogging too and making an income from home, but I also like to relax and do nothing at times which is hard when you have kiddos to tend to 🙂
Self care is so important. Especially for new moms. It’s too easy to lose yourself. And a happy mom is an amazing mom.
It’s so easy to put yourself dead last when you’re a mom, especially a new mom! I love that you are finding some time to pay attention to your needs and wants too. It makes all the difference in how you feel and what you can be for your loved ones!
It is so important to take care of ourselves, especially moms! When my sister had her baby I keep having to remind her to do things she used to do so she doesn’t forget herself, you know? For me, wine and a good book at the end of the day usually does it lol. Oh and chocolate!
I am currently taking these vitamins now! I found that a few years ago my hair was just not growing. So I started taking different hair, skin and nail vitamins. They have helped so much! It’s great that you do things to still make yourself feel better even when you are tired!! Keep it up!
I love this list. It’s so inspiring. I don’t even have a baby but I find self care usually gets put at the end of the list. I’m a huge believer in showering and fixing my hair and make up every day, even if i’m putting on running shorts and a tee to blog and do housework. It truly is the best feeling. I’ve just started my skin care routine up again, too and vitamins are a huge part of my health and self care, too.
I admired you for listing these things. I guess , I should be thinking more of the things that I do well too…..this will surely boast one’s self confidence 🙂
I wear clothes that make me feel good. I can’t be bothered with clothes that no longer fit or are uncomfortable…life is too short for that!
Also, talking to my mum always makes me feel good. She is an angel.
I love the fact that the first point to taking a shower. People take for granted a shower these days. Especially a shower where you are not interrupted. I feel great if I get the chance to wash my face anymore as I have 4 kids running all over!
Great tips! I use the Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin, and Nails every day 🙂
Well, I can tell you that the hubs will appreciate you more! A happy mom makes a happy home!
Self-care is so important, especially as a new mom. One of my favorite sayings is “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. P.S. I also like a little Starbucks now and then as a treat 🙂
I also read everyday before going to bed. It helps me relax and I just LOVE to read.
I pretty much do most of the things in your list. I have grown up kids now. I thought that when the kids get older, I will be less stressed. Hah! Wrong. The older they get, the more complicated the issues. And they wear bigger clothes so that equates to more laundry loads. Anyway, parenting is not an easy task but the rewards in kisses, hugs, smiles, and milestone achievements (college diplomas) are priceless! How do I treat myself? I spend time at the grocery. Or indulge in a big, fat, greasy burger. 🙂
Reading and treating myself are two things I love to do, too! Sometimes you need that special drink from Starbucks and a good few hours with a book!
I really like that you’ve found ways to have a baby AND have a self-care routine. One of the reasons I’m apprehensive about having kids is because I feel like I’ve just gotten my life together by the skin of my teeth, and I’m afraid to give up my productivity, health, and relaxation so quickly! This makes me feel like it’s all about determination and prioritization – good for you!!
So true about keeping up the skincare regime. My hormones were way out of whack after both kids and I got zits more than ever! Thanks for sharing 🙂
You’re a rock star mama already! I still can’t manage to get a shower every day…maybe it will click for me soon?
Um I need those gummies in my life, what a good idea!
I’m not a mom yet but I can only imagine how important it is to do these things. Hope you’re doing well, Neely.
These are all great ways to treat yourself! Glad you’re taking care of yourself girl!

It’s so great that you’re taking time to take care of yourself after having a new baby! Getting outside, exercising, and eating well always make me feel better about myself too
I love this post so much! So many times people say things that make me terrified to become a mom, but your post makes me feel like I can handle it!

Thanks for the post! I will bookmark this.
Thanks for the wondeful post. Keep on doing the blog work.
I don’t care for wine or any alcohol really! I have tried to like wine but I just don’t. I had some champagne at a wedding once i really liked, only to find out it was sparkling cider. Probably why I liked it.
