Fall Traditions To Do With Your Family

Fall is approaching (hopefully sooner than later) and I for one can’t wait. Beyond just the better weather and seasonal decor there are just so many great fall traditions to do with your family. We have a few things we always do as a family but now that my kids are getting older we are able to add even more to that list!

Fall Traditions To Do With Your Family

Pick Out and Carve Pumpkins: We love taking the kids to pick out a pumpkin and it doesn’t matter if it’s a pumpkin patch, or Walmart. Kids get the same joy! Then it’s fun to carve it. Even though for us it’s mostly us doing the gross work and the kids just watching it’s still a fun family activity.

Decorate: I’m hoping this is the year I can decorate a LITTLE more for fall. The last 2 years I have had to curb it since Charlotte has been a bit destructive. But now that she’s almost 3 I think we can reintroduce the decor. Kids love to pick out decorations.

Go Apple Picking: Something that doesn’t really exist in Dallas but would be really fun if you live somewhere where you can swing it!

Visit A Pumpkin Patch: We have the cutest place here called Blase Family Farm. It’s one of my favorite places to take the kids. Huge pumpkin patch, Hay rides, maize, so much fun! We also happen to have a pretty great pumpkin patch at Charlotte’s preschool! Since Liam was a first year there we go several times a year after school once the pumpkins are out. So fun! We also have the Arboretum here in Dallas which does a HUGE pumpkin patch every year.

Visit The State Fair of Texas: This is obviously very specific to Texas but the state fair is a HUGE deal here every fall. It kicks off mid September and runs for a few weeks. It’s truly the most fun!

Visit an Oktoberfest: We have a neighborhood one that is SUPER family friendly and if you have a family friendly one near you it’s a great time with kids. Food, games, beer for the grownups, and live music!

Go To A Football game: Be it a high school game, a college game, or an NFL game football is such a fun family activity!

Bake pumpkin treats: I love to bake pumpkin muffins and my kids surely love to eat them! Now that they are getting older it’s so fun to have them help in the kitchen.

What is one of your favorite fall traditions to do with your family?

These are great ideas. I loved carving pumpkins and then roasting and eating the seeds as a kid. A town near me has the 2nd largest Oktoberfest in the world, so it’s always fun.

We’ve never really had traditions but I really want to make new ones with my husband. I think it would be lovely to have our own individual traditions.

I went apple picking a couple years ago with my husband and toddler. It was so fun! My toddler loved eating all the tiny apples he could get his hands on. I’m wanting to go back this year now that we have another little one to see how she will react 🙂

I don’t like being cold and the heat sucks the life out of me, so I love the fall. It seems to be the season my husband and I spend the most time together. Thanks for the ideas.
