Favorite Badass Book Heroines + Immortals Review

This post is brought to you in partnership with Orbit Books

I love a good book. I have talked about books several times on my blog, and if you have been reading for any amount of time you know that my book tastes are varied. From silly celeb biographies, to chick lit, to badass book heroines. I love them all! Recently, I was sent a copy of The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky which hit bookshelves this past Tuesday. Guys I was captivated by this story! I love a book that sucks you in from the beginning and this one did not let me down. Have you ever just started a book and known you needed to finish it that day? That’s how this book is!

TheImmortals

A little about the book:

Manhattan has many secrets. Some are older than the city itself.

The city sleeps. Selene DiSilva walks her dog along the banks of the Hudson. She is alone—just the way she likes it. She doesn’t believe in friends, and she doesn’t speak to her family. Most of them are simply too dangerous.

In the predawn calm, Selene finds the body of a young woman washed ashore, gruesomely mutilated and wreathed in laurel. Her ancient rage returns. And so does the memory of a promise she made long ago—when her name was Artemis.

When I read this book which happened in the span of two days, I got to thinking that the badass heroine in this book Selene/Artemis came in a long line of other badass book heroines. I wanted to share along with my thoughts on the book some of my favorite books featuring badass book heroines.

Favorite-Badass-Book-Heroines

The Hunger Games Series: I mean listen Katniss is amazing. Not only does she win the Hunger Games but she sets things right in very messed up world she lives in. I’m still #TeamGale but I’ll forgive the ending.

The Divergent Series: Tris doesn’t follow the path that’s necessarily set out before her. She goes with her heart and knows she is a Divergent. She could easily be something she isn’t but being who she is, is what makes her a badass.

Bossypants: Who is more badass in our real world than Tina Fey? No really who? OK maybe Beyonce.

Harry Potter Series: Nope NOT Harry as Harry is a man and not a heroine. But you know the real hero of Harry Potter? Hermione Granger that’s who! She kicks butt and takes names. She ends up with Ron(#relationshipgoals) and being part muggle she takes a lot of crap. But that doesn’t stop her from being the smartest, prettiest, and most badass person in the entire series. It’s not REALLY about Harry guys come on.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: I’ll forgive the movie, because you know what it wasn’t my favorite but the books were amazing to read and I love the story. Lisbeth is SUCH a badass and I am a sucker for these books.

Outlander: I am not finished with the series yet but so far I am loving it and Claire is beyond badass. She does what it takes to survive. Aren’t we all doing that in our own way?

The Immortals: Selene is smart, crafty and fierce and if that isn’t badass I do not know what is! You can view an excerpt from chapter one here.

Immortals-1

Badass book heroines come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. Some are privileged and some are struggling. They make reading fun and interesting and leave us on the edge of our seat or couch depending where you are reading 🙂

I’ve never heard of this book before but after reading that extract I need to pick it up ASAP! Calaena Sardothian from the ‘Throne of Glass’ series is without a doubt the most badass character I’ve ever come across!

If you like romance mysteries you should check out the Women’s Murder Club series by James Patterson (full of girl power) and the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. So good!

  6. Hermione will always and forever be my favorite heroine. Driven and unapologetically so! A great role model to younger girls…and older girls alike!

I haven’t read any of these books other than the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so I can’t really comment on any the heroines, but a book with a good heroine is always a good read! I definitely need to step up my reading game 🙂

It’s like you’ve been reading my editorial calendar!!!! I totally agree with many on this list (I’m pretty sure that the HP series was actually about Hermione). Other great heronies:

Lizzie Bennet (turns down marriage proposals to do her own thing, hellooooo)
Meg Murry from the “A Wrinkle in Time” series (loves her family, stops at nothing to help them, brave as anything)
Arya Stark… Do I even need to explain that one?

    Great list!

Tris was so inspiring to me while I was reading the Divergent series. I loved her! One of my favorite fictional heroines isn’t from a book, but from a movie. Summer from 500 Days of Summer came to me when I was stuck in a tight situation. Her character inspired me to do more of what makes me happy. She also taught me that it’s okay to change your perspective and be open to new experiences. Summer is the only character who has ever really hit home and made me change the way I live my life.

The Hunger Game series! I absolutely love! I have not read the Divergent Series but I love the movies! I heard Bossypants was such a good book. I will have to add it to my list of books to read. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie was insane (I have yet to read the books yet). Immortals looks very interesting. My taste in books also vary in a wide range or genres.

Hunger Games and Harry Potter are great examples. I haven’t read Bossy Pants yet, but it’s on my list. I’m reading Mindy Kaling’s book now (finally!) and I would give that book to my daughter to read. She spins all of your teenage and adolescent insecurities into positives.

I’ve read all of these with the exception of the Immortals. I will definitely have to check it out. Isn’t there a new show based on this? I could be getting it confused with something else.

I’m still upset at the ending of The Hunger Games series. #TeamGale forever!
