What Makes Us Wellthy

I partnered with Harmony Books to share about #WELLTH with you!

No, that is NOT a typo in my title, but rather a play on words for the book I want to talk about today. Recently I was given a copy of, WELLTH: HOW I LEARNED TO BUILD A LIFE, NOT A RÉSUMÉ by mindbodygreen.com creator Jason Wachob. This is completely my kind of book. I love any book that talks about ways to better your life and your personal well being. I have talked about this subject several times on the blog. Today though, not only do I want to share about the book but also what makes me feel wellthy. Feeling wellthy isn’t just about the basic everyday things. It’s so much more.

What-Makes-Us-Wellthy

Here is a little about the book:

Wellth3D

“Many of us aren’t satisfied with just trying to accumulate the most money and toys. The good life is no longer just about the material—instead, it can be found in a lifestyle that is devoted to mental, physical, and emotional health. A wellthy existence is one in which happiness is attainable, health is paramount, and daily living is about abundance. It’s a life in which work is purposeful; friendships are deep and plentiful; and there’s a daily sense of richness or overflowing joy. But since there’s no one-size-fits-all definition for a wellthy existence, I hope this book will serve as a guide to help you embark on your own personal journey that is both unique and meaningful.”

Eat. Move. Work. Believe. Explore. Breathe. Connect. Love. Heal. Thank. Ground. Live. Laugh. (AKA my new life motto)

These are the building blocks of Wellth. In this blend of memoir and prescriptive advice, Jason Wachob shows us all how to enjoy truly “wellthy” lives—lives that are deeply rich in every conceivable way.  Through his experience and personal story, as well as in exclusive material from popular expert contributors (including Dr. Frank Lipman, Dr. Lissa Rankin, Joe Cross, Charlie Knoles, Kathryn Budig, Dr. Aviva Romm, and Dr. Sue Johnson), we learn how we, too, can embrace this new movement, while exploring what we can do to make frequent deposits into our own “wellth” accounts. What’s your life worth to you?  Come and explore it.

A little about the author:

Jason Wachob is the founder and CEO of Mindbodygreen, the leading independent media brand dedicated to health and happiness, with 15 million monthly unique visitors.  He has been featured in the New York Times, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, and Vogue. Jason has a BA in history from Columbia University, where he played varsity basketball for four years. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and loves German shepherds, Chuck Taylors, and guacamole.

For me things like exercising regularly, being outside, traveling, eating healthy, and spending time with my husband, family, and friends are the things that make me feel wellthy. Having a great career is great, and being able to buy the latest styles is nice but those don’t fill me up. They do not make me feel whole. When I was reading this book I found myself nodding along, and literally saying “YES!” out loud so many times. I think it’s easy to get stuck in the hamster wheel of life and go through the daily motions and not really live. This is a really easy way to NOT feel wellthy. I would highly recommend this book to anyone because I am sure everyone could use a little more wellth in their life. If this sounds like something you would like to read I have a fun treat!

I am giving you guys a chance to win a copy of the book! Here is how you win.

I just love the idea behind this book and I’m going to have to see if I can buy if I don’t win! This is how we try and live our lives already…for our family and not for our jobs. It can be hard to do since we have to have those jobs to live but it’s so necessary.

  9. This sounds like an excellent book! It preaches what I try to convey to my readers regularly: mind+body+spirit wellness is what makes us happy! Not being thin (I promote zero “skinny” recipes), material things (you’ll never find a shopping guide on my blog!) or working too hard in one area to compensate for lacks in others.

I thinking feeling “wellthy” is going to be different for each person. Feeling “wellthy” is about doing what brings you joy, whether that be cooking dinner for your family, reading a book before bedtime every night or just taking walks in the park with the dog in the afternoon. Following my passions, doing things that actually mean something to me and being authentic and true to myself is what makes me feel “wellthy.” Helping others as much as I can in my own way, especially in the body image and disordered eating space, is what really lights me up.

  12. This is perfect timing! I spent my weekend scouring the Internet looking for motivational books just like this. I feel the most wellthy when I am treating myself right. When we’re commuting to work, in meetings, stressed out, when things don’t go our way, etc, we often get so caught up in negativity and we’re so busy that we forget to take care of ourselves. Sure, I feel great when I’m at work making money, but I feel my absolute best and most wellthy when I take the time to breathe, congratulate myself on small victories, cook healthy meals, etc. When I invest time in myself, I feel my best.

  15. I absolutely love this post; and even if I don’t win your giveaway, I will be checking out this book! I love the idea that being “wealthy” is just being content and happy in what you have. Being “wealthy” to me is hanging out with my two loves, Luna and Axel. I gain happiness from them that can turn the worst days in to tolerable days. Thank you so much for sharing this book and bringing “wealth” to all of us!

  16. I read MindBodyGreen almost daily and have been wanting to read this book for awhile! For me, wellth involves exercising, healthy eating, being with friends and/or family, spending some time being creative, and spending time being intellectually stimulated as well. Also, the link to sign up for your email list didn’t work for me.

Love the concept of this book. It can be so easy to get caught up in stuff and resumes, but they don’t really fill you up! The things that make me feel “well-thy” are my walk with God, my family, exercise, traveling, and being outside.

Wellth, for me, comes in the form of my life with Christ, true community, quality time, the ability to travel and see all God created, enjoying the outdoors, exercising, good books and a good cup of coffee–that is where I find my wellth.

Living an authentic life is so important to me. I want to make sure I leave a legacy behind.

I really need to read this book. It reminds me of a blog post I wrote a few months ago called “I don’t want to be rich” . Of course I would love to make lots of money, but it’s not just about the money. I would rather have time and freedom to spend with loved ones, travel or just do whatever I want. And I think having people that truly love and care for you, its the wealthiest thing of all.

  42. This sounds like a book I need to read! I feel Wellthy when i’m spending time with my family. Talking and laughing with my brother and sister in law. When i’m having hard, deep conversations with my hubby, when i’m taking my son to school in the mornings. All these things are so much more important than monetary wealth. I’d rather collect moments, no things.

  43. This totally sounds like my kind of book! I love the focus on living a more authentic and joyful life, rather than spending your entire life chasing more money. Money is great and all, sure, and we need it for things like keeping a roof over our heads, the lights on, and food on the table, but it’s so important to be thankful when you can do those things and enjoy what you have instead of what you could have. Loving your life the way it is today is everything, honestly.
