Snack Ideas For Toddlers

I feel like one of the conversations my mom friends and I have more often than not aside from nap struggles is “what the heck do we feed these kids?” Liam is 13 months and like most growing toddlers he eats A LOT! He is a pretty big grazer and gets hungry throughout the day. My knowledge of snack ideas for toddlers was really lacking until I stumbled upon a few things I wanted to share today!

Snack Ideas For Toddlers

Fruit: This seems super obvious right? But it’s amazing how much fruit my kid will eat. Liam LOVES fruit so we always make sure to keep a ton in the fridge: oranges, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and grapes are his favorites! He also is OBSESSED with tomatoes!

Cheese/Yogurt: Liam LOVES cheese and yogurt which is great because he doesn’t always drink a ton of almond milk, so it’s a good source of calcium for him. I can always guarantee him to polish off some cheese or yogurt

Gerber Snacks: We have been using Gerber snacks for quite a while. Right now Liam’s favorites and our go to snacks are Puffs, Lil Crunchies, and Yogurt Melts. These are perfect for when we are out and about, on a walk, or even just to give him with some fruit, and cheese! Some things I did not know until recently:  Little ones 8-24 months get about 25-30% of their daily calories from snacks. 1/3 of 8-24 month olds are not eating whole grains on a given day. 90% of 2 and 3 year olds fall short on MyPlate recommendations for whole grains. The more I thought about that the more I realized how true it is for us! This ensures for us that Liam is getting more grains and enough calories daily. We are a huge fan of Gerber snacks and plan to be using them for a long time!

Muffins: I make greek yogurt whole wheat muffins every weekend and they are a great go to snack during the week!

Green Smoothies: Liam thankfully LOVES green smoothies! We have these pretty often and he really seems to enjoy drinking them himself. We even got him his own special smoothie cup!

Do you have any great toddler snack ideas?

  1. Liam’s diet is definitely much healthier than mine was when I was a toddler! I had unhealthy junk food all the time – thank God my palate has grown up a bit now. 😉 Fruits and muffins sound like delicious treats! 🙂

Back in the day, all the kids had apple juice and goldfish. It was like there was nothing else ha ha. I did try to give my kids better ones though especially since we dealt with gluten and dairy allergies. We couldn’t just grab the goldfish like everyone else. These are great ideas!

  4. Cheese sticks are great options, and my children love applesauce. We would buy the Gerber Yogurt Melts for my baby girl, and older brother would try to eat the entire package! Mommy likes them too!

My kids would do anything back in the day for those puffs. I mean, anything. They were the best thing for my kids and not messy like some snacks.

  8. My kids loooved the yogurt melts. Pretty much tried to live off them if I didn’t watch close enough. They always knew where they were stashed and my son is a super climber and I couldn’t keep my stash hidden.

We gave the kids a lot of fruit to snack on when they were toddlers. My daughter absolutely loved blueberries! She still does. 🙂

Great choices. When my kids are that age too, I gave t hem savory snacks during the day like cooked veggies. This is the age children learn to have a sweet tooth so I avoid giving them sweets .

Those yogurt melts and puffs were my two of my go-to snacks when my nieces and nephews were younger. Especially when they got to the age when they wanted to feed themselves. All of us would look forward to snack time!

  26. Our 9 month old loves so many of these! Currently her favorite snacks are scrambled eggs, avocado and strawberries haha she’s also obsessed with Lil’ Crunchies and could seriously eat them all day long if we let her. But we try really hard to limit them.
