3 Ways To Take Advantage Of That Extra Hour

Does it freak anyone else out that daylight saving time is THIS WEEKEND? How, how is that possible? Wasn’t it JUST Labor Day and here we are in November! With Daylight Saving just around the corner (THIS WEEKEND), my friends at Beautyrest Brand challenged me to show you how to take a step towards being a healthier, more well-rested you in just one hour or less. I am sharing with you 3 ways to take advantage of that extra hour you are given. With that how it can really make you feel great.

3 Ways To Take Advantage Of That Extra Hour

Spend an hour doing meal prep: Meal prep is one of those things that sounds great and we all have the best intentions of doing it, but for most of us it just never pans out. A great thing about having an extra hour is that you have the time to meal prep. Here are my meal prep suggestions:

  • Make smoothie bags. These are great for breakfast, snacks, etc during the week. Take frozen banana, strawberries, blueberries and any other fruit and throw them in plastic baggies. Make yourself 5 and put them in the freezer. Then, when you want to make a smoothie, add your liquid and greens of choice and blend.
  • Make slow cooker bags. Same concept as above. You can cut up veggies, prep meats, etc and put them in bags for the week. In the mornings, just pop them in the slow-cooker and go.
  • Cook a huge chicken or turkey breast and some veggies and put in Tupperware containers for the week for lunches.
  • Make mason jar salads. TONS of recipes online!

You can do most of those things in under an hour and you are set for the week.

Leave Your Excuses at the door:  You have an entire extra hour, guys. GO TO THE GYM. Or you can go for a run, take a long bike ride with your family, go to the park and play a sport, go swim laps in a heated pool. So many options. BUT you have an extra hour. You don’t have the “no time” excuse to work out. Do it!

Do A Deep Clean: I’m weird because a deep clean sounds like a great idea to me. I love a clean house. Nothing better to start the week than a clean house. You feel better, you sleep better. Having fresh sheets on your bed is another bonus! Take an hour and throw your sheets in the wash, and while they are washing, do a deep clean. Tackle the bathrooms, dust the blinds, wipe down shelves in your fridge, mop. You can do these things easily in an hour. Put on some music or a great podcast and get going! You will have a much better week and you will be SO GLAD you did it!

While all of these things are great prioritizing sleep is important too! Did you know that according to a recent survey by Beautyrest Brand a third of Americans (33%) say it’s been 6 months or longer since they last woke up feeling energized?

  • On average, they haven’t woken up feeling energized in five months.
  • More than 1 in 4 Americans (29%) admit they haven’t woken up feeling energized in more than a year.

Doing the above things can totally make you feel more energized. Imagine how good you’d feel with a clean house, prepped meals, and a good workout under your belt? I bet amazing! Now also imagine how you’d feel prioritizing sleep more!? These are only 3 ways to take advantage of that extra hour. I would love to hear what you would do with your extra hour!

I definitely need to do some meal prep! I have lots of great slow cooker recipes I want to try out but don’t want to prep them morning of. A deep clean also sounds like such a great idea!

I completely forgot that it is Daylight Savings time this weekend!!! I can’t believe it’s already here. How crazy. These are all great things to do with the extra hour we will be getting. I have tried to get ahead with as much meal prepping as I can. Also decluttering things has been on my list.

  12. I now see time totally different after going to Russia and experiencing two different time zones. One seven hours different from home and then in other parts which were nine hours. I actually had two extra hours added to my day traveling between time zones leaving one place at a certain time and landing in the next at the same exact time, almost like being in a time machine. Made me realize the value of time and how much of it we must take advantage of before we lose it. Imagine truly having two extra hours added to your day. It’s so crazy. I lived through that.

I completely forgot about Daylight Savings until I was looking at my calendar and planning out my week. That’s so crazy to me!! These are great tips! I’m always so excited to have an extra hour and I guarantee I’ll spend mine at the gym or in a yoga class. Sundays are usually my day off from fitness, but if you have an extra hour, then why not make the most of it?!

Great tips! I never thought about that one for smoothie bags, but it’s smart (especially since that takes up a good chunk of my morning–chopping up fruits/veggies when I’m still half asleep!).

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

  22. I forgot about daylight savings time being this weekend! I love that you want to DO something with it, instead of just sleep in an extra hour, which is what I normally do. I think it will be a great chance to go out on a long run before church on Sunday!
