Yesterday we moved into our new house! To say it’s been a chaotic few weeks (months!!!) would be saying it lightly! It’s also going to be a bit chaotic for the next few weeks as we live without a kitchen! We completely demolished the existing kitchen and are having a BRAND NEW dream kitchen built! Plus there will be a bar! So excited! But we slept at the house last night and today is our first full day. I know moving can be so stressful but there are 5 things to keep you sane during a move that worked for me!
5 Things To Keep You Sane During A Move
Try to keep a semblance of a routine: Meaning if you usually go to bed at 9 and wake up at 6 do that! If you do a morning workout still try to do that. Keep your kids on the schedule they are accustomed to as much as possible. Routine for our family is so important and while some things were definitely off their routine we really tried to keep things as normal as possible.
Move a little at a time if you can: We lucked out this time and had nearly two weeks between closing and moving. We were able to move a ton of stuff ourselves. We moved the kids’ closets, our closet, most playroom toys, all the bathrooms, and most random household items! This way big things were already set up before we moved in!
Try to take time for yourself: This is KEY! I haven’t been great at this but even being in the car alone to run a few errands was helpful. We were go go go NONSTOP from when we woke up till we went to bed for almost 2 straight weeks. So finding slivers of time to myself was so important!
Don’t slack on the things that keep you healthy: Eating healthy meals, getting exercise, sleeping enough, drinking water, doing your skincare routine, etc. Make sure you are doing the things that keep you healthy! Being sick during a move is not fun!
Ask for help: There came a point where I needed help! Mostly with the kids. It’s OK to ask for help even if you don’t want to.

These are great tips to remember when moving, Moving is a big job. Packing in itself for a family is overwhelming and time-consuming. Doing a little bit at a time while organizing and purging makes me feel productive. It also makes moving into the new place a lot easier.
We moved bit by bit, but part of me wishes we had done it all at once. I think getting it over with helps to keep the move from dragging on.
It is so easy to forget to take care of yourself when you’re moving. Like late at night you’ll all of a sudden realize you have not eaten all day. These are great tips. Thanks for sharing
Big time ask for help! No one helped us and I had to work because our move was pushed by a week. My husband did it all himself making several trips back and forth in one day just to move the bare basics!
Hhhhmmmm….I love the idea of moving a little as many times as I can. It’s what we did, when it came to Mummy’s shop. Nothing was damaged or lost in transit.
I don’t know why I am like this, but I always do things at the last minute. When I was moving to my current apartment, I had two months to pack up etc., but I left it all till 1 week before moving day. It was stressful. Thanks for the tips.
Asking for help is what I did as well when we moved to another house. It can be overwhelming and tiring so I recommend asking help as much as you can.
What a really great and very helpful tips you have here. I’m gonna have to share this with my friend thanks for sharing this with us
