I always say I am the epitome of a morning person. Once I am up I am up. I never hit snooze and I actually feel my most productive in the mornings. But I was not always this way. It took me a bit of training myself. I want to share how to become a morning person and get the most out of each morning!
How To Become A Morning Person
Prepare at night: I talk about this a lot but I think making a lunch if you need one (or your little), laying out everyone’s clothes, etc really helps. It also helps to go to sleep with a tidy space. I cant relax until everything is in it’s spot. But I think this is also helpful when you get up in the morning and things are neat!
Don’t snooze: This is the biggest thing! DO NOT HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON! Andrew actually keeps our alarm clock in the bathroom so we have to get up to turn it off. When I lived alone I kept it on the other side of the room. This way you have to get up. You are less likely to snooze.
Wash your face first thing: Washing your face and applying skin care especially a vitamin c serum really wakes you up! Washing my face and brushing my teeth are the first things I do! I feel like it just starts my morning off right.
Eat a healthy breakfast: I pretty much eat the same thing every morning. I have oatmeal with half a banana and a latte. I also drink 20-30 oz of water right away. I feel like this really gets my metabolism going and keeps me from feeling icky (pregnancy issues). Eating a healthy breakfast really helps and gives you something to look forward to. I actually really look forward to this every day.
Enjoy time for you: For me waking up early means I get a little me time before Liam is up. I can read for a bit, watch a DVR’d show, check email, or get some blog work done. Having that time to eat breakfast alone and get something done for me just sets my mood right.
Workout: I am a morning workout person. It’s just what works best for me. I know not everyone is this way and honestly I used to think the idea of working out in the morning was insane. When I was in college/grad school I took evening barre classes and now I can’t imagine doing that! I also remember that one summer when I was a nanny I got up at worked out at 5 so I could do 90 minutes at the gym before heading to work! The thought was crazy to me but now I love having my workout done early. I usually head to the gym after I take Liam to school or on days he’s home I work out here before he’s up!
Make a list: I actually do this at night before I go to bed but sometimes I add to it in the morning. Having a daily to do list is SO IMPORTANT! I feel so much less stressed knowing I have it all written down.
To me these steps make it so easy to become a morning person and doing them really helps me stay a morning person. Sure sometimes (all the time) I am tired and wish I could sleep in but I know I am most productive in the mornings.
Are you a morning or night person?
Happy Monday, Neely! I wish I was a morning person… I’m a night owl as much as a night owl could get, my regular bedtime is 3am-4am… so unhealthy! Thanks for these tips! I’m definitely going to try to sleep and wake earlier from now on…

I’m usually a night person, but striving to be a morning person little by little. Coffee certainly does help!
Having the day prepared helps me wake up. I make a healthy breakfast the night before and do most of my meal prep on Sundays for the entire week. Eliminating some minor stress is good for sleep. And coffee helps.
The putting your alarm in a different room works! At first I didn’t like it but I made it work!! Plus I like to wake up 10-15 early to just sit in bed and catch up on YT videos and plan my day!
A morning skincare routine is a great way to get yourself up in the AM! I always feel so refreshed after applying my skincare products.
I am most definitely not a morning person. I literally have to drag myself out of bed every morning! I blame my poor sleeping habits. Having a list helps though. If I know what I need to accomplish that day, I find it’s easier to get motivated.
A regular schedule + morning workout + COFFEE is how I became a morning person!
We got a new alarm clock for Christmas and made the new years resolution to not snooze and maintain a consistent schedule. We haven’t been perfect at it but it has made such a difference. So happy we made the investment into ourselves.
I have always been a morning person. I started waking up about 30 minutes before everyone else just for a bit of quiet time in the morning. If I don’t get it, I am cranky throughout the day. I started by setting my alarm 5 minutes earlier every week until I started waking at the time I want.
I was never a morning person but having kids changed that. Lol. I try to embrace being up early by being productive. A workout first thing in the morning is my favorite.
I started becoming a morning person just a couple of years back and I really find myself being more productive. Sometimes I do feel like I want to rest in bed longer but then I remind myself that if I get all my work done earlier, I can have more time to rest at night.
Oh! i so wish…. Getting up in the morning is so rare for me. Hopefully these tips could help. I just cant help and always go for the SNOOZE button
Thanks for sharing it is very good……getting up morning is very good habit and we have to fix up every night
I really struggle with this. Even after having kids, mornings are so hard. Preparing at night I think is such a great idea.
Great tips, I’m so with you on that alone time at breakfast to start the day well. I like to have breakfast and then journal every morning.
I have the unlucky pattern of having to wake up early and go to sleep late. Running on caffeine and fumes over here!!!
I’m definitely a night person but I’d love to be a morning person. I definitely think working out in the morning is a good idea because leaving it until the end of the day just decreases the likelihood of you doing it. I also feel more motivated after I workout.
Really liked you article and I will try your other tips.
I am not sure if I am a morning or a night person. But I know that I don’t have to use my alarm clock because I always wake up before 8. I always make my to-do lists the day before. In the morning I just take the time to wake up and start the day positively.

As I get older, I’ve become more and more of a morning person. I used to be a night owl and stay up studying or partying. I have cut that back.
I’ve also become a morning person! I think that I adapt pretty well to being a morning person or a night owl, it is all a question of rhythm and routine.
I really need to implement some sort of method to becoming a morning person! I am such a night owl that mornings are always painful! Anything helps! Thanks for the tips!
I used to sleep until the last minute until my sister came. Now, I go to bed early and wake up early because she wakes me up in the morning to go to university. (I have to also clean up her mess because she doesn’t clean up after herself.)
Gosh I wish I was a morning person! I struggle so much to wake up in the morning to an alarm, and don’t naturally wake up before 8am! Coffee is definitely a good start though and the peace and quiet in the morning is definitely a perk.
Definitely a morning person. I totally agree on NOT hitting the snooze button. It’s the kiss of death. You gotta just get up and get to it.
These are some awesome ideas! I do a lot of these already but I’m going to try applying a vitamin C serum like you mentioned!
Morning all day everyday but working nights is really confusing my system at the moment…my body does not know how to adjust which means I am tired all the time
