Spring Fitness Routine

A few months back I shared my winter fitness routine and I got great feedback on it. Now that the weather is warming up, I have added some new things into my workouts and brought back some old favorites. I wanted to show you what a spring fitness routine looks like for me and how I go about my week with workouts. You’ll also see in the pictures that I’ve found a new product at Target, SYMYX Elevate, to help me get more out of my workout! More on this later.

On Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays I like to do about 45-60 minutes of cardio. Lately I have preferred running/walking outdoors or biking outdoors since the weather has been so nice. Nothing is like a good outdoor cardio session in beautiful weather. Not only are you getting in a good workout but you are getting fresh air and sunshine which can really boost your energy and mood. After this I try to add in a good stretch, either at the park in my neighborhood or if I’m at the gym I will stretch there. Then I try to finish it up with some arm and ab workouts.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I really like to do leg workouts either doing a barre type class or using TRX equipment at the gym I belong to. What I love about my gym is that it has a barre studio inside as well as a full gym of cardio and weights. It really makes mixing up my workouts easy and enjoyable.

On Saturdays I have been really enjoying yoga classes when I can make it. I love ending the week with a really good stretch session. Usually after that I will bike for 20 or so minutes. If I don’t go to yoga I love going for bike rides with Andrew! (More on that tomorrow)

When I want to mix things up, I swim. I am a huge fan of swimming as exercise and even though the pool at my gym is heated all year round I just could NOT swim in the winter. But now is the perfect time to add swimming into workouts. Swimming really livens up my spring fitness routine!  Did you know that swimming is one of the easiest workouts on your body? It also burns a TON of calories and tones you up really well. My gym has a ton of water aerobics classes too that I like to partake in during the summer.

No matter what I am doing at the gym I always need a few things: A good podcast (you can read my favs here), my trusty headphones, and something to keep me energized and hydrated. I was given the opportunity to try out Symyx Elevate, a new sports supplement with some unique benefits. It has branch-chained amino acids (BCAAs) and other ingredients that help burn fat, tone muscle, and speed recovery—as part of your workout regimen of choice and a healthy diet. And with a dose of caffeine, you get a nice boost of energy, too! The peach flavor is my personal favorite but they also come in Black Cherry, Strawberry Kiwi and Watermelon. You can find it at Target in nutrition aisle near the pharmacy! Who isn’t at Target all the time? I know I am. For sure grab a flavor and try it out. You won’t be sorry!

You can sign up for deals and check out more info about Symyx at the Symyx website and/or on Cartwheel!

I would love to know what your spring fitness routine looks like! I always need new ideas!

  2. I typically alternative between cardio or bootcamp classes (which involve a treadmill) and pilates/yoga. I like to do a longer, more intense cardio session Saturday morning and then yoga on Sundays. I love getting to good stretch in at the end of the weekend/beginning of the week. Sets a great tone!

I’ve been doing the TIU Bikini Series workouts and LOVING them!! There’s also been a ton of hot yoga and I’m hoping for more outdoor walks to come too! The weather has been too perfect not to enjoy some outdoor time!

I have been walking outside lately instead of doing it at the gym. It’s too nice to be indoors. Will have to try that drink, sounds great!

  7. I have also developed a routine, after years of just doing yoga daily and running whenever I felt the need to break away from my mat. I find that running gives me a nice glow (sweat, baby), and yoga gives me inner strength as it stretches and tones my body. Both have done so much for my overall health. I always say, “Yoga keeps me crime free.” ha ha. But seriously, having a routine gives me something to look forward to, and the planning ensures I’ll get it done! I haven’t seen the Symyx beverages before. Hmmm…

I would love to swim more often. I just need my own private pool, which I will by right after I win the lottery.

  10. Your gym sounds awesome! I am a Planet Fitness member and I love it for the price, but it doesn’t offer all those things 🙂 I’d love to do some more classes, but right now I stick to the treadmill or the cross trainer. I take a book with me and read while I work out. It makes the time pass so much faster.
