5 Ways To Up Your Financial Game

One thing that has been hard for me as an adult is finances. Thankfully my husband is very tech and finances savvy, but for some of us stepping up our financial game is hard. I have some tips that have really helped me over the years, and today I am sharing 5 ways to up your financial game and also share some tips and thoughts from Digital Lifestyle and Technology Guru, Katie Linendoll.

5 Ways To Up Your Financial Game

Open a Money Market account ASAP: What Kate Says: You want an account that supports your savings growth for a long time! 360 Money Market from Capital One 360 does just that – we’re talking no fees, no minimums, and a high-yield 1.00% Annual Percentage Yield for balances over $10,000. *There is no minimum balance required to obtain the disclosed APY; APY rate is variable and effective as of September 29th! I say that having a money market account can only help you! If you are like me a few years ago and didn’t know much about them, then research it!

Use Mobile Banking: I think one of my favorite things in life is mobile banking! Being able to log in and deposit checks, transfer money, and see what my spending is makes lives so much easier. With Capital One you can also set up text alerts for spending! So you don’t have to worry about someone snatching your account and you not realizing that tons of money has been spent. Or you know worrying about late night shopping like Kate says. Plus mobile check deposits? Yes please. Also who uses checks? Note that your deposits are FDIC insured up to the allowable limit.

Record Your Finances Monthly: One thing that Andrew and I do is we each record our spending monthly. We use categories like one off expenses, wants, needs, groceries, entertainment, house projects, and baby. That way we can see where most of our money is going and also see what we are putting into savings. We try to set a budget for each category which helps a ton! Capital One Enhanced Transactions will help you do this and make it VERY easy for you!

Have Money Transfer Automatically: If you have savings goals, I highly suggest setting an amount to transfer into your savings or Money Market account every single month. Same day, same amount. This doesn’t mean you can’t add more, but at least you have a goal every month that you know will be transferred. Treat it like any other bill you pay. But the thing is you are paying yourself for your future.

Pay Off Credit Cards Monthly: If you take anything from this post, take this. Pay your credit card balance EVERY SINGLE MONTH! Do not carry a balance. You can use Capital One online bill pay and make sure any and every card, be it a Capital One card or a store card, are paid off every single month. If you treat it like a checking account you will spend so much less. Trust me!

Utilizing these tools and so many more you can find ways to up your financial game and make yourself so much more financially savvy!  With Capital One You have 24/7 Access to your money wherever you are, either online or with the top-rated Capital One mobile app. If you need to speak with a real person, you can call 1-800-289-1992 any time.

What is one way you up your financial game?

I’m disgusting with how I used my credit cards in my first couple of years in my twenties. Now I’m paying for it. Paying off my credit card monthly would have been the smartest thing I ever did!

This is really great. I actually am thinking about getting a secured credit card to help boost my credit. As I work towards rebuilding credit (bad decisions made as an early adult) I know this will help me a lot! Without one I have already gained 100 points on my credit report in the last year, hoping a credit card will rebuild it more!
