One thing that has been hard for me as an adult is finances. Thankfully my husband is very tech and finances savvy, but for some of us stepping up our financial game is hard. I have some tips that have really helped me over the years, and today I am sharing 5 ways to up your financial game and also share some tips and thoughts from Digital Lifestyle and Technology Guru, Katie Linendoll.

5 Ways To Up Your Financial Game
Open a Money Market account ASAP: What Kate Says: You want an account that supports your savings growth for a long time! 360 Money Market from Capital One 360 does just that – we’re talking no fees, no minimums, and a high-yield 1.00% Annual Percentage Yield for balances over $10,000. *There is no minimum balance required to obtain the disclosed APY; APY rate is variable and effective as of September 29th! I say that having a money market account can only help you! If you are like me a few years ago and didn’t know much about them, then research it!
Use Mobile Banking: I think one of my favorite things in life is mobile banking! Being able to log in and deposit checks, transfer money, and see what my spending is makes lives so much easier. With Capital One you can also set up text alerts for spending! So you don’t have to worry about someone snatching your account and you not realizing that tons of money has been spent. Or you know worrying about late night shopping like Kate says. Plus mobile check deposits? Yes please. Also who uses checks? Note that your deposits are FDIC insured up to the allowable limit.
Record Your Finances Monthly: One thing that Andrew and I do is we each record our spending monthly. We use categories like one off expenses, wants, needs, groceries, entertainment, house projects, and baby. That way we can see where most of our money is going and also see what we are putting into savings. We try to set a budget for each category which helps a ton! Capital One Enhanced Transactions will help you do this and make it VERY easy for you!
Have Money Transfer Automatically: If you have savings goals, I highly suggest setting an amount to transfer into your savings or Money Market account every single month. Same day, same amount. This doesn’t mean you can’t add more, but at least you have a goal every month that you know will be transferred. Treat it like any other bill you pay. But the thing is you are paying yourself for your future.
Pay Off Credit Cards Monthly: If you take anything from this post, take this. Pay your credit card balance EVERY SINGLE MONTH! Do not carry a balance. You can use Capital One online bill pay and make sure any and every card, be it a Capital One card or a store card, are paid off every single month. If you treat it like a checking account you will spend so much less. Trust me!
Utilizing these tools and so many more you can find ways to up your financial game and make yourself so much more financially savvy! With Capital One You have 24/7 Access to your money wherever you are, either online or with the top-rated Capital One mobile app. If you need to speak with a real person, you can call 1-800-289-1992 any time.
What is one way you up your financial game?

I am soooo inspired by this post. Thank you so much! Now let me stop reading now and go write that post, hah! :)))
I’m disgusting with how I used my credit cards in my first couple of years in my twenties. Now I’m paying for it. Paying off my credit card monthly would have been the smartest thing I ever did!

I love using mobile banking because then I am always on top of checking what I spent each month, and where I can save in terms of spending, too!
Good ideas!
These are all great tips especially the last one. I am currently in credit card debt and trying to crawl my way out of it. Never again. I will always pay off credit cards monthly if I get any more after this.
Great tips! It’s funny, in premarital counseling the only category my husband and I were compatible in WAS finances so we’re generally on the same page and pretty good savers. We love finding new tips like these though to do even better!

Excellent tips! We need to all remember following them!

I’m am SOO lost when it comes to banking and finances! Great tips and EASY to follow for someone like me!! Lol
One of my goals for 2016 was to get more on top of my finances. Using mobile banking has helped because it keeps me more on top of everything since I can pay bills on the go.
I swear by mobile banking and automatic transfers. I try to pay off my credit card every month but it doesn’t always happen. I need to be better about that. Great tips!!

Excellent tips and I love that you shared a few of the perks that Capital One offers. I personally bank with them and they’re pretty great.
These are spot on! I got out of the paying off the credit card balance in full each month and it’s crazy how fast that can get away from you. 🙁 Side note: I love how in my browser the top reads “5 Ways to Up Your Financial Game – It Starts With Coffee…” Yes, everything starts with coffee. 😉 )
Or how about not having credit cards at all? That’s my mantra.
I really need to record my finances. I used to do that when I was in college and then got pretty lazy after I graduated 🙁
I love mobile banking,, and am working on paying off our debt the snowball method way. thanks for the advice.
Finances are what I hate most about being an adult…but I’m sure we all do. I would be lost without mobile banking!
Yes, I love Capital One so much that I even opened my business bank account with them.
xoxo, Jenny
You’ve got me feeling like I’m in good shape. I do every single one of these things. I’m somewhat obsessed with monitoring and managing my finances :).
Mobile banking is the greatest thing! I do direct deposit for savings too and it’s really helpful!
Thanks for this tips.. I need this one.. I am interested with this 360 money market.. I think i will take a look at the site and register.. is its applicable on my country.. (hope so)
Stop spending it! Hahaha.
I like the tip about automatically scheduling money to go into savings. Great idea.
These are all great tips — I need to pay closer attention to my income and expenses. I definitely also need to work on paying off debt!
Awesome tips. I have been more serious about building my credit up from dumb stuff when I was 21 too. I just even got an email saying “your credit score has gone up”. Yes! Thank you for sharing.
This is really great. I actually am thinking about getting a secured credit card to help boost my credit. As I work towards rebuilding credit (bad decisions made as an early adult) I know this will help me a lot! Without one I have already gained 100 points on my credit report in the last year, hoping a credit card will rebuild it more!
I need to go back to watching my spending and keeping track of my expenses monthly. This summer it went out the window and I’m sad to say I no longer am in the habit of keeping track.
That is great advice. I always make sure to pay off credit cards in time, and mobile banking surely is a big help there!
I need to get better at tracking expenses and recording finances.

Awesome ideas and capital one is an amazing bank–I’ve been with them for years.
These are all great tips! We actually don’t even have a credit card anymore. And we definitely automate our savings it makes it so much easier.
All of the above mentioned tips are imperative and useful. Trying to live out of the debt is really crucial, however, it is not n easy job to get rid of all the debts, but we can improve our fiscal conditional through these tips.
I love using mobile banking. One of my favorite things about it is being able to deposit checks by just taking a photo of them. It is so convenient and allows me to not have to make the trip to the bank.
omg so many helpful tips!! You can never have enough financial advice thats for sure!!!
All excellent points to consider. Sadly, many folks live pay check to pay check so saving is almost impossible.
Most of my financial matters are handled by my husband. It’s good to know other options of banking and budgeting.
