Ways We Are Helping to Prevent the Spread of Illness-Causing Germs in Our Family

Thank you to Lysol for partnering on this post. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that I love!

This is a really difficult time for everyone around the world. Sometimes I get really frustrated, but I have to realize the ONLY people I can control are the ones in my house. With that said, I wanted to share some ways we are helping to protect our family from illness-causing germs that I think may be helpful to you all too!

Ways We Are Helping to Prevent the Spread of Illness-Causing Germs in Our Family

This is a really difficult time for everyone around the world. Sometimes I get really frustrated, but I have to realize the ONLY people I can control are the ones in my house. With that said, I wanted to share some ways we are helping to protect our family from illness-causing germs that I think may be helpful to you all too!

We use the Lysol® Germ-Cast™ app: This has changed my life. When I told my husband about it, he was so excited. He is the resident germaphobe in our house, so having this app is amazing. Let me tell you how great this app is: it’s a free app that provides daily data on flu and COVID-19 incidence levels at the county-level, as well as a three-week flu forecast. Which is really helpful if you have kids in school, too!

Lysol® Germ-Cast™ also provides information on how to help prevent the spread of illness-causing germs — like daily tips, tricks and guidance, and access to Lysol® product information. Since we are a big Lysol®-using family anyway we were so excited to support this app and have found the daily information to be really helpful. I think my favorite tip was about the most high-touch germy hotspots in the home to disinfect — y’all my mind was blown! Why hadn’t I been disinfecting my kids’ toys more!? Also, did you know your phone is one of the dirtiest things you touch? On average, we touch our phones 52 times a day! Are you washing your hands 52 times a day? Probably not.

It’s so important for us to help protect not only ourselves, but others as well — so getting the tools we need to stay informed and vigilant has been really amazing. Seriously, download this free app because it’s full of so much information and you can see how fast cases are rising in your area and get so many great tips. You can download Lysol® Germ-Cast™ in the Apple App Store or Google Play or visit the tool through your browser!

We take our vitamins religiously: While this isn’t going to prevent anything necessarily, it does help your overall health. Liam loves taking his, and thinks they are desserts — so, whatever helps!

We stay home: Another pretty simple one. We just stay home. Liam goes to school, but that’s about it. We do a lot of curbside pickup, a lot of drive thru and “drive-bys” to see people. We haven’t taken the kids inside of a store since February, and Andrew has been working from home since then as well. Staying home really is another simple thing you can do to keep yourself and your family healthy.

We wash our hands…. A LOT: I think this goes without saying, but COVID-19 or not, you should wash your hands A LOT! We keep hand sanitizer everywhere around our house, in the car, diaper bag etc. for when soap and water aren’t available. I even taught Liam a song to sing while he washes his hands, and he’s a pro now. It’s amazing how something so simple can make such a difference in your health.

I know this is such a scary time, but helping to protect your family against illness-causing germs is important; and, with these tips and the Lysol® Germ-Cast™ app, you will have some great tools to help you do so.

So have you downloaded the app yet?

Sounds like a pretty useful app! We are also doing all of these things regularly–aside from my husband going in to work (he’s in the medical field, so he doesn’t have a WFH option). Such great tips!
