9 Things To Change NOW!

If you read my post about lifestyle changes I made after I had the baby you will know I am on a mission to change unhealthy habits and add more all around wellness to my life. So, today I am sharing 9 things to change NOW that you can implement too!

9 things to change now

9 Things To Change NOW!

Exercise: It’s hard for me to imagine a time when I didn’t love to exercise. To me nothing feels better than accomplishing a great workout. Bonus if it’s a TOUGH workout. If you aren’t exercising, start small. Try to work out 3 times a week. Even if its 20 minutes a day. Build up to your goal.

Sleep: I feel like getting adequate sleep is just not easy. Especially when you have kids. But if you are able to get 8 hours of sleep a night and just are busy doing other things I suggest maybe keeping your phone in another room (like your bathroom) and getting some good shut eye!

Greens: Growing up I hated veggies. HAAAATED. My mom could barely get me to eat a carrot. Now I love them. Even things like Brussels sprouts. If you are not a huge greens person I suggest making green smoothies (you can’t taste the veggies). My favorite recipe is here.

Negative Self Talk: I am 100% guilty of this. “You’re not skinny enough” “You’re not pretty enough” “You’re not good enough.” So much negative self talk. We all do it. One thing I like to do is make a list of things I am good at, and qualities about myself I love. I also save emails from brand partners when they really praise my work. That way when I am feeling down I have affirmations to read and really make me feel better.

Being Present: It’s 2017 and phones, computers, tablets, TV, its everywhere. Andrew and I have been guilty of laying in bed on our phones or having a movie on and still being on our laptops. It’s about being present. I have tried to put my phone away when I am with family and sometimes that means I don’t get good photos but I know I am present and I want my son to grow up with present parents.

Screen Time: This is a continuation of above. Instead of always watching TV (guilty) maybe read or play a board game. Or even go for a walk. If I realize I have had the TV on all day I just turn it off.

Moving your body: To continue from exercise if you aren’t a huge workout person just try to go walk for 30 minutes a day, or do some yoga stretches. Anything to move your body and get your blood pumping!

Self Care: Do the face mask, tweeze the eye brows, get the latte, and read the book. Just make sure to take care of yourself. Treat yourself, do the things you LOVE, see the chick flick you want to see. Taking care of yourself needs to come first.

Organizational Habits: Organized people tend to be less stressed and have less depression or so I’ve been told. Having a clean work space, bedroom, countertop etc will just make you a happier person. Trust me!

I would love to know what you think of these 9 things to change now? Would you add anything to the list?

  1. I loved veggies growing up! I think liking greens starts at a young age. It’s good that you’re embracing more of the greens now!
PS: I love Brussels sprouts 😉

Being present is definitely a challenge with the access to smartphones. Going to work on that!

  3. Getting enough sleep is an important thing. Not having sufficient sleep makes for a really rough day. I could use more sleep.

My biggest obstacles right now are working out and negative self-talk. I hate sweating and having a hard time breathing so I’m always iffy on working out – even though I KNOW I feel better afterward. But I am doing well in terms of self-care and allowing myself to do the things I enjoy.

Haha. I just started eating Brussels sprouts after HATING them growing up! My mom would bill them and put mayo on them. YUCK!! I now like them roasted.
Anyway. Love this post. So important to remember to care for ourselves. I hate exercise but I’m about to head out for a bike ride. I hate trying to add veggies to supper (that everyone will eat)but I keep working on it.
    Thank you!

I definitely need to work on that whole screen time and disconnecting thing. I always tell myself I’m going to stop screen time around 8;30 and then go read in bed, but instead, I end up texting with a friend (who’s in a different time zone so it’s not late for them! haha) or just scrolling through instagram. Womp Womp.
But staying active is a MUST for me every single day and it’s hard to believe that there was once a time in my life (or rather more than half my life) when this wasn’t just a big part of who I am. Now, I love my time at the gym, exploring on hikes, or trying something new (tonight it’s rock climbing)!

We’re the same. The TV is on but no one is really watching because we’re on our phone or laptops! Horrible. That needs to change.

I do like working leafy green veggies into recipes nowadays. I’ve been able to do a lot with kale but I want to try experimenting with dandelion.

  16. I totally agree with being present. I hate when I’m with friends and they are on their phone most of the time. It’s just rude.

I love your list. It made me stop and think of what I am doing to that should be stopped/changed. I need to get more sleep, to practice self care and to eat healthy. I should not put this off any longer if I want to live a long, happy, healthy life.

These little things are parts of my life that I can immediately feel/tell when they are off. If I go for long periods of time without being active I get moody, stiff and sore. If I become disorganized my entire world seems chaotic, these things build on each other and they are great to share with others on ways to improve their daily lives!
